Hail Carl-Gustav, you are very welcome to my small weblog, Archangel’s Lantern! How and when did you enjoy the metal community? 
Which one(s) was/were your first musical stuff? (cassette/vinyl) What hard rock/metal band did you see live first?

- Hello Georgius and Archangel’s Lantern, thank you so much for inviting me for this fantastic blog. 

Well I started to listen to a copied cassette that my cousin gave me. On the first side it was Bruce Springsteen and the other side it was Twisted Sister the album "Stay Hungry". I was totally sold on the raw sound from Twisted Sister and bought the album directly on vinyl. Afterwards I started to gain interest for metal and tried to buy an album every month. It was everything between W.A.S.P., Judas Priest to Metallica. Metallica was a breakthrough to more extreme music and soon after that I gained to Kreator, Possessed and Morbid Angel. The first band I experienced live was a concert on a local youth center. I think it was Nosferatu, Malicious Decay (Mastema) and some local smaller bands. 

When did you start to play the drums? Which drummers/bands were your influences in the beginning? Do you have nowadays some favourite ones? What was your first band? Would you be so kind briefly share some thoughts about Swedish scene those days (especially from your area, Strömstad)? 

- I started to play some guitar in primary school I think it was in forth grade. I see very fast that I couldn’t catch up with the other musicians in school so I quit guitar and started to play drums. We had a band at the time that was called  Terror Zone after the Kreator song. We were influenced by Dissection that lived in our town and had the opportunity to see them rehearse and hang with them at the youth center where also the rehearsing room was located. Of course I was inspired from Ole Öhman and Tobbe Kjellgren but  in my opinion Pete "Commando" Sandoval is the biggest drummer in extreme music. 

We had lots of gigs in our area everything from extreme metal to some rock music. Jon Nödtveidt was very driven and arranged very cool gigs in our area. The music community was fantastic between 1989-2004 and you could see bands as Grotesque, Entombed, Mega Slaughter, Carbonized, Dark Tranquillity. We had also lot of contests called Rock of Bohuslän that the youth center arranged. But after that the music really died in Strömstad. I actually moved 8 miles to Uddevalla because the lack of interest ... and after 9 years I have also moved back to Strömstad but the music scene in town is quite dead. We have some active bands in rock music but there is nearly no extreme music at all. I have some old friends of mine, that still are into extreme music and they tried to arrange 2012-2013 Metal legacy with bands like Mayhem, Nifelheim, Marduk, Destruction, Belphegor. But the second time they had really problem with the economy so I don’t know if they are gonna try one more ore not. The scene today in general has grown in Sweden there are a lot of gigs and festivals. The main problem is that there are a lot of bands that just play music and sometimes you wonder, if they really should be on stage. They have no passion and sometimes you really wonder if they really mean and stand for their words. 

Tell to the readers more about your previous awesome hordes, as Author of Pain, Mastema, Sarcastic, Grief of Emerald, M Ä B E, Third Stone From The Sun. 

- Mäbe Mathias Johansson is an old session guitarist of Dissection. He is one of my best friends and we have always been sharing the passion for music. We have had different projects and bands during the years. We have done a lot of music experiments, like Third Stone From The Sun, that was more punk-rock and Nosferatu that evolved from Death metal to some kind of melodic slow pace metal. 

M Ä B E are also a Swedish rock band that I have been active in and we have released two records together. M Ä B E is still active but after I suffered from some shoulder problems and less time, I had to leave the band at that moment.

We have also a Thrash metal band called Sarcastic. I joined the band somewhere between 2004- 2006. We are still active but do not rehearse. We are actually planning to release a record through To the Death Records and there will be a mixture of old stuff and new one. 

Author Of Pain was a Death/black metal band that started somewhere in 1993 and where located in Strömstad. We released three demo tapes:

2. Seven Gates 

3.The Christian Doom. 

We where very inspired by Dissection and Marduk. The band dispatched 2002 after Erik Beast Electric joined Swordmaster and Deathstars.

Mastema is an old band where you can find all music elements of Death, Thrash, Black metal. The band moved from Strömstad to Uddevalla and I joined the band in 2000. The band has had lot of members from Lord Belial, Grief of Emerald, Soul Reaper, Swordmaster.

Mastema has always been really underground band and has released only four demos. It's really shame that the band has dispatched. I don’t know if the flame is still there or not. But the music is incredible.

Grief of Emerald is a Death black metal band with elements of Morbid Angel and since the band used keyboards it has always been compared to Dimmu Borgir. There are many that not give the band a chance and that is really a shame. I've joined the band for a tour in 2001 and have been in the band to 2014. I have also written some lyrics to the last two records and I think the band is killer. After some serious problems with my shoulder as I told you earlier I had to calm down my drumming after an operation and I am still training and rehabilitate to gain speed again. I am on my way in the right direction. And my shoulder doesn’t hurt so much anymore. 

I’ve found on Encyclopaedia Metallum, that you played at live with CON. ( I like so much this horde and can’t wait to listen to their debut album). Enlighten us please about this Occult Alliance. How were the live performances with them? It would be amazing a common European tour of Protector/CON in the future.

- Pontus Norman mailed me and asked if I could join the band. It's many years’ since now. And I don’t really know if the band will play some gigs or not in the future, but I really hope so, because as you said we are sharing the Essence of Darkness and have many same thoughts. Lets see what the future brings. 

Protector and CON are not in the same chapter music wise and I think CON must be more spiritual and play with such bands.  

You were a session/guest musician in Thrash metal band, called Conspiracy (nowadays Chtonium) on demo ”All You Ever Feared” (2006). Any memories about it?

- Yeahh, it was awesome. I remember we rehearsed five times and after that we went right into the studio. Neither there are nor so many drummers in our region so I love to help out and do what I can to help bands and be supportive. 

When and how did you meet Martin Missy? Unfortunately I don’t know too much information about the beginning of Martin Missy and the Protectors. Would you be so kind to speak about it?

- Well, Martin Missy and I have had a common friend called Jonas Svensson, who lived in Uddevalla. After a concert with Nifelheim in Stockholm Martin and Jonas discussed Protector and Jonas told to Martin that he should do a reunion with Protector. Martin said, that it should be difficult but Jonas cracked the idea of a cover band. And told, that he will get members for him... Martin: "yeah, let's see if you find someones..." after that I visited Jonas on an after-party in Uddevalla there was playing some music on his stereo and since I have listened to also Protector in early age and it is one of my top gems in Thrash metal, it turns out, that I recognized the music and we just talked about Protector the whole evening. Jonas called me after 2-3 weeks and told me the idea. Of course I joined directly and after that I called Mike that also has been in Mastema and we started to rehearse. The best thing of all was the first time we rehearsed with Martin and saw his look on his face, he was really impressed. After that we did some small gigs in Sweden to test the songs live and see how it felt. After that we played in Germany, Finland, Norway and around for 6 years. Somewhere between the gigs we discussed making new songs and well suddenly we started to make new material. And after contact the old members and ask for permission, in August 2011 the Protectors recorded a 4-track-rehearsal, which one was released on the 8th of October 2011 under the name Protector. This date marked the rebirth of Protector at Hell Inside festival.

I’m an old fan of Protector since 1988/89 and for me it’s really great feeling that Martin with you returned under the glorious banner of Protector. Which Protector tracks/albums are your favourites from old releases?

- Misanthropy (the whole mini-album), Apocalyptic Revelations, Protector Of Death, Nothing Has Changed, Urm the Mad.

Unfortunately I couldn’t listen to following releases with You yet, as "The Return of Thrash and Madness" (demo), "In the Vein of Blackened Steel" (Split), "Merciless Metal Onslaught "(Split) but "Reanimated Homunculus" definitely is one of my favourite albums of 2013. Are you satisfied with these works? 

- Well we wanted it to sound old school and I think we have accomplished that so I am quit satisfied with all the recordings, all of them has different qualities but they sound ok.

As I’ve written on my review on Hungarian Kronos Mortus webzine, your new release, "Cursed and Coronated" is simply brilliant job. What are your favourite tracks from new stuff? What are your plans for this year? It is possible, as we could see you live near my region, Slovakia/Hungary?

- Well my favourite track are Xenophobia and Selfdestrugtion really pure Thrash stuff. We try to play in Europe and hope that maybe someone will contact us for a show that would be awesome. We travel often by car because Martin is afraid of flights but anything is possible. 

Archangel’s Lantern is Eternally dedicated for Jon Andreas Nödtveidt. In our private conversation we talked a little bit about him. Would you be so kind to tell your opinion about Jon, as person/ musician? Please Revive a few remembrances with him! 

 - Jon Nödtveidt is a fantastic musician both vocals and as guitarist and writer. He was one of a kind. But I also want to make a statement that the Essence of Dissection also lays on the other members especially on The Somberlain and Storm Of The Lights Bane. I mean you could not do such records without Ole, John, Peter and Johan. Every musician has his own style, so I would say that he couldn’t do it with the rest of the members. I think people should give more gratitude to the whole band. 

Jon was a really nice person. He and Ole inspired me to start playing music. One time he invited me to play drums at his rehearsing room. I was twelve, I think. You can imagine how it felt to play drums at some riff that he was jamming. I think I practiced 8 hours per day after that session. So he really get me started. He was really supportive. If I don’t remember wrong, I think that I bought a copied cassette from him where some Protector songs were recorded.

Hail my good old friend Tobbe! First of all tell to the readers  about the Hellish alliance between Jormundgand and German black metal label, Christhunt Productions regarding your debut, "Visions Of The Past” in 2013! (by the way I’m very pleased for  the mention my humble name on your thank-list!) What has been the reception of "Visions of the Past” amongst black metal fans, magazines?

- Hail!

Well, the response has been quite lame to be honest.. But I can understand why! The "Visions..." cd is not the best things we have done during the years... I don't want to go in to any details but I can tell you that I do NOT like it at all!! The lack of inspiration and dark atmosfear on that recording is quite obvious. We wanted too much and went astray on the way somewhere. We needed to take a step back to try to figure it all out, and it ended up with the death of Jormundgand and the rebirth and rising in the shape of Voodus! And I have to say that after we changed name/aim for our spiritual perception, the band has finally found the way back to the true depths again! The music and the atmosfear is better than ever before! We are strong for real now! Hard as iron and black like a shadow!

Jormundgand recorded in "The Burning Light of Daath" as a single for the "Critical Mass vol. II" LP in 2014. Would you be so kind to share some thoughts about it?

- There is not so much to say about that. Dennis who runs the label "Critical Mass" asked us if we wanted to participate on the hardest compilation LP in Sweden? Of course! We said, and recorded "The Burning Light of Daath", which is the first full song that me (Tobbe) and Erik did together. It is in fact a Voodus song and not a creation by Jormundgand, even if the back of the LP say so.....

Jormundgand played in August last year with an old Hungarian band, Omen and RAM in Sweden. How were satisfied Hungarian guys with that show? What are your experiences from this concert?

- Yeah! Omen was a pack of really great guys :) Thy did two shows in Sweden and we did one of the gigs along with them! I don't know how their second gig turned out, but in Kungälv where we played it was pretty good. Not so big audience thou.... But it use to be like that.... If there is more than 100 persons, you must be extremely satisfied! And RAM, it´s always a pleasure to do gigs with them! They are a really fucking great live-band. They are true to their Heavy metal heritage, and it makes them  rise above the most of other bands of the scene. I have far more respect for those guys than I feel for 99% of the Black metal scene of today. But I have to say that I feel some kind of dark and dangerous currents from the depths of the scene of today. There are some really great bands out there, like Mephorash, Thy Darkened Shade, Ascension, The Ruins of Beverast, Acrimonious,Nidsang, Valkyrja.......Voodus!

You’ve changed band name Jormundgand to Voodus this Summer.. 

Enlighten us about all the important details of this metamorphosis!

- Read the first question and answer!

Voodus has been the band of the week at SwedenMetal in September,2015. Congratulations, my friend, you are really deserved it! Tell us more about it!

- It´s not so much to say! It´s just one internet mag in the big ocean of mags out there that liked our music! Hahaha, but it´s always fun when our music reach out to people. And it is a good thing to have some magazines on your side, to write your words and propaganda when you want to conquer the world!!!!

Voodus  is a very active one with live shows this and last year. You’ve shared the stage with bands Ofermod, Mephoras under banner "The Holy Trinity Tour” in Sundsvall, Östersund and Stockholm, Sweden in September. How was that live performance?

- It was great times for us! And we thank Erik from the mighty Mephorash for the opportunity to be a part of this tour! It was a magical time! I mean, to play and to hang out with Black Metal Gods like Mika Belfagor from the mighty Ofermod and Jonas Nebiros from Malign/Mephorash! It was a true honour for us!!! The gigs went out well I think! Specially the gig in Stockholm! It was some kind of dark force in the atmosfear that night! With the Bloodmoon in the night sky to celebrate the end of the tour and all!

If I’m not mistaken, You’ve crushed the audience in Uddevalla on your birthday, 31th of October. Would you be so kind to say some thoughts about this massive show?

- Yeah! We did a gig along with Necrocurse in their hometown! It was a great show!

I’m very thankful to you for your awesome package  of this year (among other things you sent me a lot of posters, Jormundgand’s debut CD and last but not least  new Nifelheim vinyl with dedication of mighty Hellbutcher and latest Necrocurse CD (also with signature of Hellbutcher). As far as I know, Jormundgand helped  to Necrocurse with decoration in their video-clip, called „Devil’s Cobra”. What we should to know about that?

- No problem my friend! The thing is that we played before Necrocurse on that show and we left our scene-show on the scene because we didn't had the time to take it away. I´m not so sure if I think that it was such a great idea anymore..... I mean, I have put like 100 hours in the workshop and in the woods for inspiration to create all the things that we bring to the show, and now will people think that it is the scene of Necrocurse..... Hrm, well, well. But now you know that all the bone and skull-creations are ours! 

Voodus is very active not just with live shows in 2015 but You’ve recorded this Summer a four tracks’ material, called „NightQueen” and this EP has been released via Jawbreaker Records on tape and Heathen Tribes Records on CD digipack. Please, share with the readers all the important information about it! (I’ve listened all of your new tracks via soundcloud and I must to say, excellent job, my old friend!)

- The recording is just a demo, to be honest. We recorded it live in the studio with almost no money at all, just to have some new songs on print. Mostly for ourselves, you know to have a recording of the new material to listen to. But we was very satisfied with the result so we decided to release the material as a limited cassette through Jawbreaker Records, which is a underground label owned by a great guy (Gustav) from Gothenburg!!! The response for this first release by Voodus has been fucking great! And now the underground label Heathen Tribes Records will release a digipack-cd on the same material + The Burning Light Of Daath! 

As I’ve red on Voodus fb-page, You’ll record your second full-length.. if You want, say a few words about it, maybe about the structures of tracks and lyrical conception...

- The complete album will be a tribute to the dark force of Lilith. NightQueen is just a taste of what to come (also dedicated to Lilith). All the songs that you can hear on the NightQueen EP will be re-recorded for the album + 6 more songs. We have like 3 or 4 songs finished at this moment, so it is a little bit left before we can enter the studio. But we will record two new songs this summer for a single! I can't tell you any details about the label yet, but it will be a fucking killer-label with the roots deep down in the cradle of true, black, sinister and dark magic music!

"So I just had my first exhibition, and I had though that it would be the same as walking onto the stage; the nervousness would go away as soon as I open the doors and let people in. But this was completely different, there was no filter between me and the crowd. I had to discuss with people about my art, had to explain why they left my head as a thought and come together as a painting on the papers.

But at the same time it was the most liberation thing. To see people, both friends and strangers look at what you have created and discussing about what they see in the colors and ink lines.

That feeling beats almost all other feelings.

I painted a lot when I was young, filled books with knights, monsters and swords and armors, we never played Dungeons & Dragons, we made our own games. But then job and adulthood came and I stopped painting for some reason. It wasn't until 2-3 years ago the lust for pencils came back.

Now it's part of everyday life."  

- Johan Ejerblom -

 ”Eye See Them To”, 52x72cm

I wanted to make a drawing that would change depending on how far from the painting you stood. To make details pop as you came closer. As most of my painting, I use water color and ink.

”Man of Many Men”, 45x45cm

The same idea as ”Eye See Them To” but a bit darker. I wanted the creatures to bend, twist and lock into each other. This took a lot of time to finish, about 40-50 hours.

”Self Redemptive”, 27x37cm

A self portrait that isn't as morbid as it looks. At least it wasn't my purpose when i drew it. Sometimes you just feel that you got so much inspiration and motivation that it feels like your head is going to explode.

”Two Armies”, 52x72cm

One of my first painting. Two armies lines up towards each other and one soldier daring to take a step towards something unknown.

”Compression Release”, 56x53cm

Another portrait, here I wanted to test a new technique, adding layers of colors to make the smoke, or flames. This one I like really much myself.

A cover for our coming EP, my first digital try. I bought a Wacom board and absolutely loved it. I will make more of these in the future.

An idea I had, mostly to try a new technique where blew with a straw to make the splash effect.

Another new technique I had to try, using masking fluid. You paint with this fluid, paint with water color and then scrub the dried fluid. Everything underneath will stay white.

"I started drawing at an early age and drew all kinds of devil-like stuff through school my teacher once said i only drew pentagrams and inverted crosses, and i guess there where a lot of them too. I got the highest grade in drawing back in school. But i kind of lost it. Stopped doing pictures somewhere in my late teens, when i worked more and more on music and Taetre back in those days. I have always loved the ink style black/white. I found a inkpen 0.5 by coincident back in 2014. That led me to start doing some small stuff, which led me to surf YouTube for different tutorials. I think that has given me very much and i think it's easy to see that i have progressed a lot during these last few years of doing it."  - Jonas Lindblood 

This is a cabin in the mountains. I wanted to do something that wasn't so horror-inspired like most my stuff is. Like all the rest i have used only black pens. Mainly using 0.8 pen in the foreground and details in 0.1-0.3. 

Mainly a skull and a rose. The rose was a big challenge for me. Not really 100% happy with the skull either but i guess it's ok. I also wanted a different angle on the skull than I usually do.

This one started out like it mostly always does i start doing the head and then it all evolves, wasn't really sure what would become of it in the beginning, but in the end I'm happy with the results. 

This is one of my Game of Thrones pics i made. This one is the Night's King. I am pleased with the end results on this one. I guess i did it within 2 days, drawing now and then. I always get a bit scared to fuck up everything since i use ink and paper and there is no way back if you do something wrong. But this one turned out good.

This is a pretty new one. It kinda just happened. I think I was practicing doing proportions on the guy and it developed into that cultish guy with fire and snakes. 

This picture came out of the idea of framing a picture in a different frame more or less and i think it turned out pretty ok. Zombie guy in front of a graveyard with some smoke and trees. 

This was the first pic I did in 2014 after a very long break in sketching. Some people think it is inspired by Pungent Stench's album "Been caught buttering" but that was never my intention. I just wanted some kind of disturbed love. Love of tentacles hehehe J

A pretty recent skull I did. I had a photo of a skull that i tried to redo, and I think it turned out really good. In my eyes this is one of my best drawings. 

Another skull, this one more devil-like. I think this one is pretty cool as well. Very Death metal, a bit in the vein of Entombed's "Crawl" motive I wear onstage. 

This one is a bit "The walking dead" inspired. A guy being eaten alive by zombies. 

This one turned out pretty good as well I think. It's the chatterer from the movie "Hellraiser". Clive Barker has been a inspiration for very long and the novel "The Hellbound" heart which the movie is based on is awesome. My absolute Clive Barker favorite is probably "The great and secret show" which has inspired me in writing both songs for Taetre and Puteraeon. 

Don't really know what this is. It's not a flower but it has some flower-qualities. I like it though.

Hail Johan, welcome to my little blog, Archangel's Lantern! How and when did you get introduced to underground metal music? What was your very first stuff (cassettes/vinyl)? Which band did you see live for the first time?

- Hey and thanks for inviting me to make an interview with Archangel’s Lantern! Well, I don’t remember but it was maybe in the late 70’s the first time. I had a friend that had KISS on cassettes that was the beginning I think. Then in the early 80’s my cousin listened a lot to early UK punk like, Sex Pistols, Sham 69, Angelic Upstarts, Clash etc. He also listened to early Motörhead, Metallica, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Black Sabbath etc. and since then it’s just rolled on… I think my very first vinyl was the KISS – Rock And Roll Over album from 1976. My first Metal live experience was actually Europe 1986 on their “Final Countdown” tour. Same year I also was on “Monsters of Rock” in Stockholm with Scorpions, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne. In September I saw the last show with Cliff Burton (RIP) on Metallica’s Master of Puppets tour.

When did you start to play the guitars/bass and the drums? Which guitarists and drummers influenced you in the beginning?

- I started to play guitar in the mid 80’s with my first crappy guitar I got from my uncle. I started to play drums after a while when I got the chance to play on real drums. I think John Norum (Europe) was my first idol/influence as a guitarist. Later on it changed to Gary Holt, Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Drummers that were great at that time were Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benante, Gene Hogland etc.

Interment is a pretty old horde since 1988. How was the Swedish Death metal scene, in your opinion, back in the day? How do you hit it off with the Swedish underground nowadays? Would you be so kind as to recommend a few small underground hordes from Sverige?

- It was special to grow up when the Swedish Death Metal scene started. That’s why we and hundred other bands began when Entombed, Dismember, Grave and Unleashed released their first demo tapes. We were on Death Metal shows almost every weekend everywhere, bought and trading demos, merch and drinking beers. It’s of course not the same feeling nowadays but I think it have come back more and more. Many young awesome bands are growing up in the scene and keep the true Death Metal spirit alive!

Oh, they are many, but check out: Temisto, Bastard Grave, Gorgosaur, Engrave, Gorgonaut, Lik, Bastard Priest, Miasmal, Tormented etc…

Interment's official video called "Praise the Death" from 2014 is an excellent job and my favorite one from that year. Share some thoughts please about the circumstances of that material.

- Oh, thank you so much! The video was made by a friend of us, Susan Wicher, which is a photographer. She made that video with only a lot of live photos and some graveyard photos. Turned out really cool I think! The song is from the recording we did with Peter Bjärgö in March 2013. We recorded five songs that were released on three different split EP’s with Brutally Deceased, Tormented and Anatomia. Recently all five songs were released on cassette by Bifrost Records called “Among the Dead”.

Interment "Into the Crypts of Blasphemy” has been released on limited tapes this year via Valour music. Tell us please all the important information about this.

- Well, it’s nothing special about it except that it’s cool to release everything on cassette. He will also release the new album “Scent of the Buried” soon. Other guy will release the demography “Where Death Will Increase 1991-1994” on cassette as well soon. Only vinyl and cassette is real…

Interment completed "Gods of the Underground Tour 2015" with Australian thrashers Hobbs Angel Of Death last month. What are your experiences from that tour? You will start to desecrate with a new one, from February next year, called "PESTILENTIAL WINDS OVER EUROPE" TOUR 2016 together with Funebrarum and Putrisect ( both hordes from United States ), might it be possible to see your band, live, in Hungary or Slovakia ( maybe Ukraine ) later in 2016?

- The tour with Hobbs Angel Of Death was a great tour. Killer shows and great support! Peter Hobbs is a legend that I’m glad to finally have got to know and played with. He’s Metal to the bone and is supporting the underground scene to 100%. Hopefully our ways will be crossed once again in the near future!

I’m afraid to say that we don’t will play in Hungary, Slovakia or Ukraine this time. Because this tour is too short, only 8 gigs, it would have be too long distances to come over in the east Europe. But I really hope that we can do a tour only in the east Europe very soon! Want to play in Romania, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia, Bulgaria and all the other great countries down there! Next time!

What are the future plans of Interment besides the live performances? What is the situation with your other bands, as Dellamorte, Moondark, etc. nowadays?

- Well, I don’t know, except to play live as much as we can around the world we maybe can record some new stuff next year, we’ll see what happens. Moondark will record a new full length hopefully this spring. We signed with Cyclone Empire last year so we looking forward to finally release our first real album. My crustband Parasit will release the second album on Cyclone Empire soon. Dellamorte I don’t know, we’ll see when time is right we will do some new stuff and hopefully to play live as well.

I was lucky to meet you, live, with Entombed A.D. guys during the tour with Grave and Implode in Kosice/Slovakia in 2014. It was an excellent show, many thanks to all of you. Any memories from that one you would like to share with us? (I hope Ukrainian beer Lvivske tasted good to you after the show  :)

Thanks a lot! It was a great show I remember, Slovakia delivered! Well, I remember you and your friends because you were from Ukraine! And the beer tasted really good hehe…

I know, it's a very hard question but I would like to ask what is your favorite Centinex and Demonical album/track from those times, when you were the Vocalist there?

- Well, with Centinex I like the “Hellbrigade” and the last “World Declension” album most. Favorite tracks “Bloodhunt”, “Towards Devastation” and “Wretched Cut” to mention three of them. My favorite Demonical album is “Death Infernal” and my favorite tracks are many but “Return in Flesh” and “Bow to the Monolith” are great.

Which foods, drinks, and tobaccos do you recommend to us from your area?

- Well, I don’t know, we eat typical Swedish food I think. I like meat with potato gratin and a nice mushroom sauce, spaghetti carbonara, homemade pizza etc… Mostly drink beers and a smoky single malt whisky like Laphroaigh, Ardbeg or a Caol Ila. About tobaccos I don’t know what to say, I smoke regular cigarettes…

Do you have any special hobbies besides music? What are your favorite albums, books, movies?

- Not really, I don’t have the time for anything else except of music and my son that are 3,5 years old. Favorite albums are too many to mention but I can recommend the debut album with Swedish Temisto and the upcoming debut album with Chthe’ilist from Canada, check them out! I don’t read books so much, I wish I could read more books but I don’t have the time. I try to watch new movies as much as I can but I also watch a lot of TV series. I highly recommend “Fargo”, “Narcos” and “True Detective” to mention a few. I’m also following Walking Dead of course…

Interview with Hrím 
(Sons of Fenris, Nawaharjan, ex-Morgon)

Hail my good old friend, Hrím, Hellcome to Archangel’s Lantern! How and when did you get introduced to metal music? What were your very first cassettes/LP-s/CD-s? 

- I guess I was "introduced" to metal in the age of 12 through a friend of my father. He often brought me some sampler CD´s of various German metal magazines when he visited us. Also I got my first hard rock album from him, it was "Killers" of Kiss. A little bit later I received Iron Maiden´s "Best Of The Beast" on CD and AC/DC´s "The Razors Edge" on tape from my father.

When did you start to play the drums? Which drummers influenced you in the beginning and please name us 5 of your favourite ones! Do you play other musical instruments beside the drums?

-  It was was around 2000/2001 when I got my first drum set. I played just in some small, unserious rock/metal projects during my school time until I joined  Morgon in 2008. As teenager I have often listened to Godsmack and Tool, I really liked their drummers, Tommy Stewart and Danny Carey. Also both bands have fascinated me because of their subtle mysticism and varied musical skills. Other drummers I like and who were for sure an inspiration are Chris Witchhunter, Tomas Asklund and Oskar Karlsson. Beside the drums I occupy myself with traditional instruments and I also started to play bass guitar. 

As Hrím, you are playing in a Dark Heathen horde, called Sons Of Fenris. Enlighten the readers, please all the important information  of this dark alliance.

- Werewolf (the "head" behind Sons of Fenris) is one of my closest friends. At the end of last year he asked me if I would like to play drums in Sons of Fenris and become a constant member, and so I agreed immediately. I decided to leave Morgon because of lasting divergent opinions with the bandmates on a personal level and to focus myself on Sons of Fenris and my new band, Nawaharjan. It is great to be part of these deeply religious bands because they completely consist of spiritually-focused individuals, which is very important for me personally. 

Sons of Fenris is dedicated to the dark Germanic deities and the primordial anti-cosmic forces. It is Their tongue, manifested in black art - a poisonous tongue that preaches devastation among the human race and plants the seeds of desperation and misery in their hearts and minds. It is a loud tremor that affects the cosmic structures, like the roaring of the great wolf Fenrir. 

What we should know about your future plans with Sons of Fenris? (new material, live performances)

- At the moment we are planning the release of the first full-length album. After this we will prepare ourselves for possible live appearances, but there is nothing concrete yet so far.

Would you be so kind to talk about the relation between old tradition and your religious point of view? What is your source of Inspiration?

- I believe that tradition is something unique and pre-destined by fate - the Wyrd - and a cultural heritage of the ancestors.  For me personally the religious point of view goes hand in hand with the tradition which I occupy myself with and which defines my spiritual path. I think the religious perspective is the natural conclusion of a tradition you are working with. It is linked with the individual perception of the world and even the whole cosmic creation and the cosmic structures. 

This, what most humans perceive and understand as reality in general, so - the structure of this world - is a constructed lie made by the demiurge in order to fence the human cattle and preventing them from realizing their hidden potential. The gods of the cosmic order, the Aesir, aren´t interested in encouraging the humans to rise, instead they want abulic slaves who worship them. It is up to the individual itself to seek for liberation through knowledge and development and finally to transcend the cosmic lie. The acting and working of the dark Germanic deities (especially Loki as active trigger) against the cosmic forces in order to expose and destroy the illusions which the Aesir have created in their arrogance is honourable and a paragon for the fight for liberation. 

The term "Dark Germanic Heathenism" (which was originally created and used by Orm of the Swedish band Ormgård to characterize a tradition opposed to the pro-cosmic oriented heathenism) is probably the most suitable description and expression for the tradition I follow and which I am working with. 

My "source of inspiration" is my inner burning spirit. It is my engine that pushes me forward to develop and to improve myself. It is the illuminating flame on my path. 

Share with the readers please an interesting legend of your mystical and beautiful mountain range, the Harz.

- The Harz is a very powerful, dark and magical landscape. There are many legends and sagas around the region, some of the most famous ones are for sure the legends of the Roßtrappe and the Teufelsmauer (literally translated as "devil´s wall"). Also the Walpurgis Night (the feast of the witches) is traditionally celebrated at the Brocken mountain (Blocksberg) on April the 30th. But what the most people don´t know is that it is told that the forests of the Harz were the home of giants, "Hünen" in colloquial speech , and other malicious beings. For this reason the Germanic tribes avoided to advance further into the deep forests for a long time. There is the legend of the Sargberg (“coffin mountain”) for example, which says that the rocks of the mountain cover the burned ash of a fallen giant king who conquered the Harz with his army of giants who has spread fear and terror among the humans. The large amount of such “sagas” (better said reports) about dark creatures is an evidence of the great and unique magical essence in this area. The world we know is made out of the first giant, Aurgelmir:

In the Harz, especially at the Brocken mountain, you can clearly perceive his primordial essence. This makes the area to a perfect place for (úti-)seta (a form of [outside] meditation ) and magical workings related to the dark primordial forces. 

Tell us briefly about the Saxons and Thuringians of migration period and their traditions. Do you recommend us some interesting books/documentary movies of these German tribes? 

- Saxons and Thuringians were proud and fearless warriors who fought stubbornly  for their freedom. Glory and honour were the most highest values beside of their deeply religious devotion. The Saxons gained their name from their distinctive weapon, the seax dagger (Old Frisian “sax”, Old Saxon “saks”). Also they have worshipped the (war) god Seaxnēat (Saxnot, who could be equated with Tyr/Teiwaz). The Thuringians were named “Toringi” by Tacitus, and later interpreted as “sons of Thor”,  which seems to be an untenable hypothesis because the god Thor was called “Thunar” in their language. Feasts and sacrifices for the gods were an integral part of their religion and tradition as well as annual gatherings (called “Thing”) with other groups and tribes. The confederation of warriors who have joined up under the leadership of a chief or chosen warrior was the highest and most honourable social fabric.  

I could recommend some general books about the topic here, but all of them are written in German language. Same goes for the documentaries. 

Which places/museums are your recommendations in Saxony-Anhalt? 

- There are two really interesting museums in relation to the ancient times, the museum for pre-history in Halle (Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte) and the unique open air museum in Zethlingen. This “museum” is a small  reconstructed village of the Germanic tribe of the Langobards (Lombards), which have settled in the north of Saxony-Anhalt.

Do you have any special hobbies beside the music?

- I like to be outside in the forest, be it for meditation or to go hiking and fishing. I am generally interested in bushcraft, outdoor and survival stuff. Beside my “regular daily” hobbies such as reading and doing sports, I'm also interested in ancient weapons and martial arts.

Which newcomer bands would you recommend to the readers? 

- I wouldn’t say that they are newcomers, but they are getting for sure more and more attention at the moment than before – Mgła and Svartidauði, really powerful and very hypnotic bands. Another refreshing band with an interesting concept are The Committee. I saw them recently and their performance was pretty good.
