J of Bastards of Bohuslän

Interview with J of Bastards of Bohuslän

Hail my friend, you are very welcome to Archangel’s Lantern. Introduce to the readers your awesome page Bastards of Bohuslän. When and how did you start it? What is the main goal of Bastards of Bohuslän?
(I’m so thankful to you for sharing my interviews with my dear Swedish metal-bother, Carl-Gustav Karlsson)

J: All hail mighty Archangel’s Lantern!
Bastards of Bohuslän is a project me and a friend started in 2013 because we were bored and wanted to have something to do. Shortly my friend left to do his own adventures. The main goal for me is to promote and help my friends and other local musicians to spread their music. NO SELFGLORIFICATION!! I am a person who prefers to be in the background. It took years for some friends to realize that it was me who was behind the page.
Yeah I don't have any problems sharing interviews with great people. Carl is an awesome drummer and a genuine nice person!

How and when did you join Swedish underground movement? What was/were your very first stuff and which bands did you see for the first time?

J: Hmm, I’m not sure I am a part of the underground…
I was born in 1981 so I think I am a bit too young to have been there in the beginning.
But as a young little fart I was at parties with older local musicians who are now my friends. I started out as many before me with listening to my older brothers vinyls. There were albums like Maiden's Number of the Beast, GnR’s Appetite for Destruction and the early Helloween albums. Those are still some of my favourites today. It was a great day when I saw Kai Hansen perform some Walls of Jericho tunes on Sweden Rock Festival many years ago. But in my brothers small collection there was a mixtape with a song on it that caught my ear. I listened to it over and over again but I didn’t know what it was. Later I found out that it was the song Terrion by Scanner. Their first album Hypertrace is an overlooked gem! I highly recommend it. Their other albums are shit!
If anybody knows what the first singer Michael Knoblich does today please let me know.

My first record was Metallica - Master of Puppets on vinyl. It was the coolest thing ever to drop the needle on your first record bought with your own money.
Hmm I don't know if I remember my first show exactly. I started to attend live-shows rather late. Me and a friend use to take the bus to Gothenburg to see bands like Dio, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Manowar and UDO. I really like the classics!

My Swedish is unfortunately very poor but with translating programs I’ve read a lot of interesting things on fuckingbastards.blogg.se. Temporary I could not check out your blog but would you be so kind to tell in brief its content? Will you plan to continue that amazing blog?

J: The Facebook-page is mainly for pics. I don't want to just google pics of local records. I want to find them myself and take pictures of them. A treasure-hunt for my own amusement.
The blog is a place were I publish my interviews. I have my ups and downs with activity on the blog. It contains mainly interviews and shorter stuff like musicians listing their favourite albums. Its not just local musicians. There are so many nice musicians that I have interviewed. Jeff Becerra of Possessed is a piece that I think turned out great. His tragic accident were he was shot and left paralyzed and his now rise to success again with Possessed. An overall nice person!
I am also grateful that I have been able to talk to people from my favourite bands like Tankard and King Diamond. An interview with the King itself is my lifegoal!

My goal is to continue doing interviews and continue asking questions that musicians don't normally get.

Did you play back in the day or are you playing in any band(s)? If yes, tell us more about it.

J: No unfortunately not. It is one of my regrets in life not starting to play an instrument in my younger days. It’s one of the reasons I now write about music instead. My son now plays guitar and I do anything to support him.

What are your most preferred hordes and albums/tracks of my dear Swedish metal brother Carl-Gustav Karlsson?

J:The great Calle!
Well, Mastema - Those Who Walk In Darkness is one of the greatest promos! Check it out! His work in Grief of Emerald, Author Of Pain, Sarcastic and of course Protector is awesome! I don't think he can be bad?!

In our private chats you mentioned Jonas Lindblood of Puteraeon. What is your opinion about Puteraeon and his past hordes? Do you have any favourites from his musician activity?

J:He is a nice guy! I am not close friends with him but we use to meet once a year at an annual music-quiz. I really don't listen to Puteraeon. The reason we chatted a while ago was that i didn’t realize that he was the main brain behind an album me and a friend listened to very much in the late 90’s. The album is Taetre - The Art from 1997. It’s still a great album! Check it out!

Swedish underground scene is a very famous with a lot of brilliant hordes long time ago. How do you describe the entire Swedish movement in golden era and our days? Let’s talk about amazing movement in Bohuslän. What bands could you recommend us from early days and currently? What is the situation with live-shows in Bohuslän?

J: It would take a lifetime to talk about the entire Swedish metal-scene! But I think the Swedish scene alongside with Norway have made an impact on the entire metal-scene around the world. But of course we are much better than Norway, he he!
The movement in Bohuslän is another story. There are so many great bands from here. But I have to include the areas around Bohuslän too because they often have members from here.
Local bands that I really like are:
Dissection for obvious reasons. One of the best bands ever.
Swordmaster from Strömstad with Jon Nödtveidt's brother Emil is fucking awesome!!

Lord Belial from Hedekas is really underrated! Great band!
Decameron!!

Deathstars. Maybe a bit controversial here but a really like the first album.
Nifelheim with the evil twins. (Stop arguing and get the band together again!!!)
Sarcastic and Hathor from Strömstad is also worth checking out.
Loud N’Nasty! Rob from LNN is a local sleaze hero and tattoo artist. He lives and breathes music. He have over the years put on many local shows and released many albums under the name Loud N’Nasty and more music with his solo-project N.A.S.T.Y.

Martin Hogebrandt is a friend of mine who has been apart of Suicide Winds. He has many current bands.
Legions of War. A war themed Black/Thrash band.

Exhausted Cocks. A punk band who is getting better and better!
GutGrippers. Maniac metal with people from Suicide Winds and Bestial Mockery. New video out. Check it out!

Three active bands and he is still restless?! Settle down old bastard!! He he!
Suicidal Winds from Uddevalla is also great. Matte Johansson and Peter Haglund going at it since the early 90’s. Is Matte a mad genius?!

Rawhide. A filthy Rock n’ Roll band from Uddevalla. I got to know Rob from Rawhide in high school cos his cousin who also played in the band was in my class. I am a true supporter of Rawhide and have seen countless gigs with them. They have not been active for some time due to some line up problems. But now they seem to be back on track and nothing makes me happier! He is also in the band Warhawk. Just as filthy!

Bestial Mockery. Bestial with Master Motorsåg in the frontline. Only one way to describe them. Pure. Fucking. Chaos!
Warfect. From a small band to one of the best Thrash bands in the world!! Watch them rise!

And speaking of the evil Nifelheim twins. They now each have their own bands. Tyrant with Crank. A more like Rock n’ Roll band. I’ve seen them live once at a local pizza-place and it was awesome!! What a great night. They didn’t have enough songs so the played their setlist two times! Ha ha!
And Hellbutcher has Hellbutcher. Why change a great name? I think it sounds more in the same line of Nifelheim. I am looking forward to the full length album cos what I have heard so far sounds amazing.

Perhaps you know that my humble blog is eternally dedicated to Jon Andreas Nödtveidt (R.I.C.) amongst others. Did you see and meet him? What are your favourite bands, albums and tracks from His heritage?

J:Hmm well of course his music has been a big part of my life and still is. I have never met him. I was too young then to hang out with the big boys. I really like all of his music but my favourites are the two first Dissection albums. Although I think Reinkaos is a great album and probably was the right next move for the band musically. But the first two for me are more raw and aggressive. And The Somberlain was one of the first more extreme metal-albums I have heard. So for me I like the classic Dissection more. Jon, Peter, Ole, John-John and Johan is the shit!

My favourite tracks are:
Dissection - Heaven’s Damnation
Dissection - Shadows over a Lost Kingdom
Dissection - Soulreaper
Dissection - Thorns of Crimson Death
The Black - The Book of Leviathan
The Black - Towards the Golden Dawn
Dissection - Starless Aeon
Dissection - Black Dragon

And of course Thunder - Dreams/Guilty of Love!

I think its really sad that all people can talk about nowadays when his name is mentioned is the fucking shit that happened. Not unlike Pelle Dead who is also now reduced to a suicide-victim who ended up on a album cover. People should focus more on their music.
Jon was probably One of the most talented musicians ever. And according to my friends who was close to him a funny nice guy. THAT is what he should be remembered by!!

I have a good metal brotherhood with Tobias Fongelius of Voodus/ex-Jormundgand since Winter, 2009.
What do you think about Voodus and his past horde, Jormundgand?

J: I don't personally know Tobias. But I have had some contact with him when I have done some interview with him. A super nice guy! Jormundgand is a good band but I really like Voodus more. It kind of has an dangerous eerie feeling to it. I think they carry on the legacy of the older bands. The old heroes would be proud!

I know it is a very hard question but what are your favourite albums of all time? (from Bohuslän to Worldwide)

J: This is a question that has been discussed on many parties. And we can agree that its impossible to answer. But I can answer what albums I often return to again and again. Worldwide it would go something like this:

King Diamond - Abigail (For me the best King album)
Thin Lizzy - Johnny the Fox (Phil is a true hero of mine)
Tankard - Zombie Attack (My German heroes)
Exodus - Bonded by Blood (Crush the posers! Paul Baloff rest in beer!)
Manowar. The first 7 or 8 albums are great! People who don't like Manowar can fuck off!
W.A.S.P. - Winged Assassins (Blackie still creates great music!)
Slayer - Show No Mercy (The best Slayer album!)
Helloween - Walls of Jericho (Kai Hansen's voice is so raw!)

From Bohuslän:
Dissection - The Somberlain (No explanation needed)
Rawhide - Deathpunk Playboys is a killer (and the rest too)
Legions of War - Towards Death
Warfect - Exoneration Denied
Swordmaster - Postmortem Tales
Loud N’Nasty - Teaser Teaser
Suicidal Winds - Victims in Blood
Bestial Mockery - Gospel of the Insane
Decameron - My Shadow

Unfortunately I never have been in Sweden so far. Share some thoughts about your beautiful land Bohuslän. What places are your recommendations to visit me?
What local foods and drinks could you recommend me to taste?

J:I hope you can visit some time. Well i recommend you to go to the ocean and just sit and watch it. I find it both calming and mesmerizing. A good place for that is Tjurpannan. A windy nature reserve where the cliffs and ocean have taken many lives. In the northern Bohuslän there are rock-carvings all over the place. Stuff your face with local seafood and beer. Maybe look up where some of the local music were made? If you travel outside Bohuslän to Gothenburg there are many metal locations of importance you can visit.
There are many small villages along the coast who are worth a visit. Except for Fjällbacka. Stay away from there! Fucking wankers!

Tack så mycket, my friend, it was a pleasure to talk to you. To complete our conversation, send your message of Bastards of Bohuslän to the readers of Archangel’s Lantern, please.

J:Thanks for the talk and the opportunity to spread the word about my page! Your support means the world to me. Hate religion and keep support your local bands and keep buying their records.

”And I laugh as I burn down the pearly gates of light.
And forever ill be within the arms of abomination!”

Jonas Lindblood

 Interview with Jonas Lindblood (Puteraeon)

Hail Jonas hope you are doing fine and very welcome to Archangel’s Lantern again. Puteraeon released 2 excellent singles last time, namely “The Sleeping Dread” in August and “The Curse” in September. Both tracks are brilliant Swedish old-school Death metal pieces in my opinion as the videos as well. Tell the readers more about these releases and clip-making process. Who created the artwork anyways?

- Thank you very much! It’s an honour to be back! I’ve done the artwork for the singles, I just wanted something different as artwork for the singles than for the album. Not that I don’t like Juanjo’s cover-art for the album, cause it’s all I wanted and more. It’s just that I wanted the singles to differ. Wrong or right, I don’t know. Both songs are part of the concept album, surrounding  ”The Call of Cthulhu”. I think both songs represent the album good and have  ”lives” of their own. The videos for both songs are done by our guitarist Rune Foss who’s been doing our videos since the first album.

Puteraeon will unleash its fourth full length on the 13th of November this year. How went the recording process? Did you work in your own studio Hatecraft again? How do you satisfied with the result? (as the singles will be on ‘The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City’ what I listened to so far, I must say, Swedish master Dan Swanö made an awesome job again with mixing and mastering)

- This time we took our time really doing our uttermost getting everything the way we wanted it. We learned not to be too optimistic with the timeframe which led to an easygoing recording. We are very happy with the outcome. This album is by far our best effort. As you say, Dan Swanö’s job is priceless. He’s really a master at producing this kind of music. We are very happy with his work and I think it really fits our music very good. It gives the songs that extra dimension.

The awesome artwork of ‘The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City’ has been painted by Spanish artist, Juanjo Castellano. How did you meet him?

- Yes! It’s outstanding art. I never met him in real life, but we are friends on Facebook and I have been checking out his art for years. He’s done a lot of really cool stuff and he was really honored to do the artwork. I gave him the instructions of what I wanted on the cover and he did that only 100 times better.

You told me a sorrowful trivia of a Puteraeon-song, “Into the watery grave”…(Rest In Peace your former guitarist, friend, Hans Sörensen (1975-2019). Would you be so kind to share your thoughts about it and some memories about him? (we are so sorry for your loss)

- Hasse was in the band in the early stage before the first album. He had moved away from the city and it was hard to rehearse frequent that’s one of several reasons he left the band. He was one of Daniels (bass) childhood friends and leaving the band did not change anything of that. He was one of those guys who none ever had anything bad to say about, and he never talked bad about anyone. He was a great guy to say the least. The whole band was at the funeral. It was both devastating and weird. The world lost a good guy. Anyway, I knew Hasse was in the hospital while starting to write   ”Into the Watery Grave”. I remember I was working on the middle part of the song when I got word about his passing. That was a hard blow. That is when this song got connected with Hasse. While recording the song I struggled getting it perfect and I said out aloud  ”Come on Hasse let’s do this” and I nailed it. The album is dedicated to the memory of Hasse.

Our latest conversation has happened almost 3 years ago and since then you released a killer EP “The Dunwich Damnation” in April, 2018. Enlighten us about the reception of that Puteraeon-material.

- The reception was good but I think we understood that if we wanted more coverage we had to get a bigger label. So in a way, both ”The Empires of Death” and ”The Dunwich Damnation” have been getting lots of less promotion than our albums have, but at the same time the reception has been all good I would say.

You’ve made a signing session in blood with Danish Mighty Music - which is a parental label of Emanzipation Productions (where will be released ‘The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City’) in the end of August, 2019. How did you remember that event?

- Well it was not that big of a deal really. We decided that instead of just doing the usual thing we wanted to do something special of it. We signed for Mighty but Michael wanted to resurrect his old label and asked us if we could release it on Emanzipation instead, we said sure.

You have been invited as a guest vocalist to Rogga Johansson’s Megascavenger: “Boneyard Symphonies album in 2019. In which track(s) did you vocalize?

- I think this was recorded sometime around 2017 and I don’t remember what the name of the track was. It’s always fun to do these things though. I’ve actually had some other offers lately but I had to say no due to lack of time. But I hope I get to do some more of this guest stuff. Always fun.

Jonas, you are not just a talented musician/songwriter but in my opinion an awesome artist as well. Share with us some information about your artwork you made to Gods Forsaken band’s LP “In a Pitch Black Grave” (2017) and your cover art to Swedish Death metal horde, To Descend EP “People of the Abyss (2018)

- Anders Biazzi wanted me to do some artwork for each song, just my imagination of the song-title. So I just sat down and started drawing stuff that came to mind really. With To Descend it was a bit different. I had already done the logo and Rogga contacted me on a picture I had posted and asked if he could use it. So that one was done before but of course there was no problem and To Descend got that artwork. I still do some drawings but a little less last couple of months. Other things have taken up my time.

In 2021 will be the tenth anniversary of your first album “The Esoteric Order”. Will there be anything special plan for the celebration that? (Paco, Spain)

- Not really. We are still doing a couple of songs live from that album and I think that ”The Esoteric Order” is our best album apart from our new one.

There have been several movements in some mythical bands from the Swedish death metal scene through the years. How do you see the scene currently there in your country right now? (Paco)

- I think there are a lot of good bands with potential becoming even better. Not sure in what way styles will turn or anything but let’s wait and see.

Will the Spanish Death metal fans be lucky enough to be able to receive your visit with Puteraeon next year? (Paco)

- Well we would love that. But right now there are only 5 dates all in all booked and that is for Sweden, Denmark and Germany only. Also this corona shit, We shall see if those happen.

Thank you very much Jonas, we wish you all the best with Puteraeon. Your message to the readers from Chtulhian Pulse…

- Thank you guys so much for once again shedding your lanterns light on our band. Check out the album! Released on Emanzipation on Friday the 13th of November! The singles ”The sleeping dread” and ”The curse” are available right now.

Jonas Lindblood

Interview with Jonas Lindblood (Puteraeon)

Hail Jonas! First of all I’d like to congratulate you  for your awesome 7” EP, called ”The Empires of Death” (released by Growles from the Underground), brilliant Death metal stuff. Share with the readers please more information  about  ”The Empires of Death”.

- Hi Georgius! Sorry for the extreme delay in doing this interview. A lot of different things fucked up, computer kept on crashing, new job and so on... I’m sorry for this. Anyway, on with the questions.  Thanks for the kind words on "Empires...”. It’s as you said a 7” EP. It contains 3 new songs from us. Recorded by Daniel Vandija in our studio Hatecraft. Mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound. I think the EP sounds really fresh even though it reeks of old school, and in short, I think it is the best release we have ever done. The songs have that thrive feeling I think we have while playing live, and that to me was an important task.

I’ve watched all your  new videos (”At the Altars” ”Providence" and ”Epitaph”) through official Puteraeon YouTube-channel, I must say, amazing  pieces of old-school Svensk Dödsmetall. Tell the readers with your own words all the interesting things, track by track.

- We did 1 video for every song on the EP. In a Bathory homage, the videos go under the influence of „Blood, Fire, Death”. Maybe not that obvious at first, but when you know it... Blood is the main thing in the song "At the Altars”. Fire is very present in the video "Providence” and loads of stuff like graves etc (Death) is present in "Epitaph”. Rune Foss who made all the videos did one hell of a good job I think.

If I’m not mistaken, the cover-art of "The Empires of Death” is your work. Would you be so kind to talk about your awesome drawing?   I like a lot your painting/drawing-style and it was a pleasure to publish Part I of your art. Let’s go to do the second part later then :)

- Yes you are very right. First up we had completely different pic as the cover. An old picture of Lucifer eating Judas that I had redrawn into Cthulhu. But it didn’t look cool enough so I started thinking about doing something else. I really enjoyed an older pic I did with Lovecraft depicted that we used as the backside for a shirt. So I redraw it again slightly different with more detail this time and that ended up as being the cover art. I think it turned out really iconic.

What is the situation with the other bands,  where you are playing, like Deletion (I saw on Ecyclopaedia Metallum as it’s on hold status) and Commander?

- Deletion is on hold for a couple of years. I’m not sure if we will do anything more with this band or not. Right now I don’t have the time for it but we shall see what happens in the future. Commander on the other hand hasn’t been active since I think 2003-2004 or something. We did 3 demos as I recall and for some reason that i don’t really remember it all just stopped. No hard feelings or so, I guess Commander was always considered the side-project band to many of the members and while some of the other guys other bands were prioritized. I still enjoy Commanders 80’s Saxon/Judas Priest type of music. And Commander felt really promising at some point, but, maybe we didn’t give it the time it needed to grow ... I don’t know.

Which bands did you enjoy as guest musician last time? ( I just saw you did some vocals to Feral in 2015, on 9th track, called Mass Resurrection)

- I’m not really sure, but I think that was the latest stuff I did. I have done some stuff for Ulverheim, Megascavenger, Just Before Dawn and Likblek before as well. It’s always fun to do.

Would you be so kind to share your experiences from Puteraeon latest live-performances?

- Right now we haven’t played live for a couple of months. We’ve been busy rehearsing new stuff for a 2018 release, so that have been taking a lot of time these last 5 months. So we are now rehearsed and will start recording our next release a 5 song mini called "The Dunwich Damnation” any day now. Drums are all set up and ready to go. I guess we will do like we did with "The Empires of Death” and first up just release it online. That could happen sometime late February/ early March 2018. Look out!

You played on guitars  in a Danish band, Thorium’s debut album, called ”Ocean of Blasphemy” (2000). How did you enjoy them? Tell us more about this Hellish collaboration.

- Well I had been in contact with Michael for a couple of years since my old band Taetre was signed to his label. He had an idea of forming an old school Death metal band, and in that time there were mainly melodic death metal at that point. Either Dissection or At The Gates clones (or like Taetre somewhere in between heheh). I remembered that playing real old school would be really cool so I joined them for a short time. I played with Thorium live opening for Artillery but that was mainly it. I didn’t want to travel so I told Michael that I could still write a couple of songs if he wanted to. So on the first album i wrote 3 songs and on the 2nd I wrote 2. On their third I kind of remember being asked but I guess I didn’t have time for it. Thorium will release a new album, my guess next year. For this album I wrote 3 songs as well. So you will hear my music in Thorium once again.

In our first Puteraeon-interview you mentioned, as you met Jon Nödtveidt (R.I.C.) many times in the ’90-s. Did your band(s) share the stages with Dissection ever? What is/are your favourite Dissection album(s) and track(s)?

- Yeah that’s true. No we never shared stage, but since Dissection lived in Gothenburg during that time, we met often on concerts and in town. Everybody who was die-hard into Death metal at that time knew each other, and everyone would be recognized (like outsiders in society if you will). I like all Dissection albums. One of my favorite songs is "The Somberlain” which really is a killer track. The "Reinkaos" was at first hard to get into, but now I think it is their absolute masterpiece. Songs like "God of Forbidden Light” and "Maha Kali” are just ingeniously written.

As far as I know, you and Ronnie Ripper Olson of Turbocharged are good friends. Is there any interesting or funny story about you from past/nowadays?

- We haven’t hung out in real life more than now these last few years at gigs we’ve done together. As for Turbocharged, the guys are really easy to like people and I think we have the same sense of humor so that works out really good. I really enjoy their company and I hope they say the same thing. Would love to do some more gigs with them in the future.

Tack så mycket/Thanks so much, Jonas, it was a pleasure to talk with you again.  Share some thoughts from the Empires of Death in the end.

- Thank you so much for this interview! It’s been a pleasure answering. Well, check out “The Empires of Death”! It’s available on 7” vinyl through Growls from the Underground and other distros. Also available on digital, Spotify and so on. And if you like it, we got some more candy coming early 2018. Cheers!

Art of Jonas Lindblood (Puteraeon)

Drawings of Jonas Lindblood (Puteraeon)

"I started drawing at an early age and drew all kinds of devil-like stuff through school my teacher once said i only drew pentagrams and inverted crosses, and i guess there where a lot of them too. I got the highest grade in drawing back in school. But i kind of lost it. Stopped doing pictures somewhere in my late teens, when i worked more and more on music and Taetre back in those days. I have always loved the ink style black/white. I found a inkpen 0.5 by coincident back in 2014. That led me to start doing some small stuff, which led me to surf YouTube for different tutorials. I think that has given me very much and i think it's easy to see that i have progressed a lot during these last few years of doing it."  - Jonas Lindblood

This is a cabin in the mountains. I wanted to do something that wasn't so horror-inspired like most my stuff is. Like all the rest i have used only black pens. Mainly using 0.8 pen in the foreground and details in 0.1-0.3.

Mainly a skull and a rose. The rose was a big challenge for me. Not really 100% happy with the skull either but i guess it's ok. I also wanted a different angle on the skull than I usually do.

This one started out like it mostly always does i start doing the head and then it all evolves, wasn't really sure what would become of it in the beginning, but in the end I'm happy with the results.

This is one of my Game of Thrones pics i made. This one is the Night's King. I am pleased with the end results on this one. I guess i did it within 2 days, drawing now and then. I always get a bit scared to fuck up everything since i use ink and paper and there is no way back if you do something wrong. But this one turned out good.

This is a pretty new one. It kinda just happened. I think I was practicing doing proportions on the guy and it developed into that cultish guy with fire and snakes.

This picture came out of the idea of framing a picture in a different frame more or less and i think it turned out pretty ok. Zombie guy in front of a graveyard with some smoke and trees.

This was the first pic I did in 2014 after a very long break in sketching. Some people think it is inspired by Pungent Stench's album "Been caught buttering" but that was never my intention. I just wanted some kind of disturbed love. Love of tentacles hehehe J

A pretty recent skull I did. I had a photo of a skull that i tried to redo, and I think it turned out really good. In my eyes this is one of my best drawings.

Another skull, this one more devil-like. I think this one is pretty cool as well. Very Death metal, a bit in the vein of Entombed's "Crawl" motive I wear onstage.

This one is a bit "The walking dead" inspired. A guy being eaten alive by zombies.

This one turned out pretty good as well I think. It's the chatterer from the movie "Hellraiser". Clive Barker has been a inspiration for very long and the novel "The Hellbound" heart which the movie is based on is awesome. My absolute Clive Barker favorite is probably "The great and secret show" which has inspired me in writing both songs for Taetre and Puteraeon.

Don't really know what this is. It's not a flower but it has some flower-qualities. I like it though.

Puteraeon: The Crawling Chaos

Puteraeon:The Crawling Chaos

Jonas Lindblood, leader of Swedish Puteraeon told the readers in his own words all the important details about their third album, called "The Crawling Chaos":

"I'm going to go in depth on the songs on Puteraeon's 3rd album "The Crawling Chaos". Who wrote it and what the lyrics are all about and so on. We started writing material almost directly after the release of "Cult Cthulhu" which was released back in June 2012. There's no reason to hold back creativity, so when we feel the urge we write, at least that's what I do. The album was recorded during autumn of 2013 in our own Dagon Recordings. Daniel put in a lot of his own time to help out, and i think he really sacrificed himself for this album. Sitting late nights in the studio working on guitar, drum and bass sound. Horns up to him for his effort."

01. Wrath

This song starts out with an awesome doom intro before it kind of explodes. It changes through out the song in different moods and is probably also the longest song we've done so far, reaching almost 7 minutes. The songs is deeply inspired be events in the H.P Lovecraft story " The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (exactly like the other 2 opening songs on previous albums; "Storms over devil's reef" & "The great epidemic of 1846"). Christoffer Fredriksson has done art in the booklet for every song and in this picture you can see the half deep ones going up the stairway with torches in their hands. This song is also written by Rune Foss.

02. In Dreamdead Sleep
I wanted this song to be like a mix of Bolt Thrower and early At The Gates with some Autopsy touch. I think it sounds absolute death metal. The lyrics are inspired by the H.P Lovecraft story "At the Mountains of Madness" and of Shoggoths. There is an eerie feeling to it and I think it kind of gives a certain cold to it, which works really good with the frozen landscapes in which that slimy lurking thing hides.

03. Path to Oblivion
When I wrote this one I wanted something more straight forward without so many different moods to it. I know we shortened the beginning of the song pretty late because we wanted it to go of with a bang. So the softer intro we had before never ended up on the album. This is one of the songs that aren't a Lovecraft song, this one, is inspired by Clive Barker's film "Lord of illusion". I've read the book to, but that was a longtime ago. I like the idea of a man who wants to become a god, and when he returned from death, it has changed his mind in a way. He's giving other people's life to the earth to pay for his own returning. In case any of you who read this have missed out on Clive Barker's books I can highly recommend "Weaveworld", "The great and secret show", "Damnation game" too. We did a video on this track too.

04. Pickmans Model
This is another one of Runes songs. I think it's a really "filthy" dirty rotten tune in a bit slower midplace. There's a really heavy riff in the middle too. The lyrics on this one is directly influenced from the H.P Lovecraft story Pickman's Model. Shortly about an artist doing the most disturbing lifelike paintings of visions he's had.

05. From the Ethereal Vortex
This is one of my typical songs in a way. A lot of different drum-patterns and small stuff everywhere. The songs is once again a Lovecraft song. This one is inspired by events in the story " The Dreams in the Witch House".

06. The Crawling Chaos
Another one of my songs. The song starts out with an intro executed by our friend Mathias Rosén. This song has a lot of different moods and drum-patterns also, just like "From the ethereal vortex". The song is loosely based on Lovecraft god Nyarlathotep, right hand of the mad blind god Azathoth that is enthroned in the center of chaos. Nyarlathotep is also known as The Crawling Chaos. He sometimes decends to earth to bring chaos and death upon mankind. Christoffer did a really cool painting on this one in the booklet.

07. The Abyssal
This is Runes work. This is also the fastest and most forward in your face song on the album. It's also brilliant in it's simplicity. The lyrics on this one is once again loosely inspired by "Shadow over Innsmouth" and i think i put in a little different side to it as well, the deranged reality comprehension of someone who drowns. Christoffer's artwork is also one of the simpler stuff he's done for us but it works really well with both the song and lyrics.

08. Asenath
Another one of my songs. This one is also a way like both "The Crawling Chaos" & "From the Ethereal Vortex", a lot of stuff going on. It's based on ...wait for it.. H.P Lovecraft's story "The Thing on the Doorstep" just like "conlaceratus" was on "Cult Cthulhu" but i think the view is different here, where it's more focused on the character Asenath.

09. Rotten Aeon
One more of Runes songs. This one is also pretty much forward. This song was also featured in a previous release (split-single with Revel In Flesh) but it was re-recorded. (The other Puteraeon-song on the split-single "To steal the flesh" was also re-recorded for the album but we decided to remove that one to make the split-single more exclusive - sad in a way cause i find both newer versions much more deadly than the ones on the split-single). The lyrics on Rotten Aeon are straight up zombie-worship. Love the artwork Christoffer did as well! Who knows, that might be a shirt motive in the future!

10. Welcome Death
This is the last song on the album and I wanted it to be the new "Liberation" (which concluded the "Cult Cthulhu" album). The songs is slow and kind of a meat-grinder. It's about ending life, never accomplished anything. No one will remember you, what you loved, what you cared for. Your voice will forever be silent and no one will ever remember or care if you ever lived. Deep and depressing, but in a way also truth-telling i guess. This is the slowest song on the album and i think it fits perfect as the ending song. When i wrote it, it instantly was predicted to become the last song on the album. The album ends with the guitar-solo "Tunnel of Darkness". In my head, there is no light after death, only absolute darkness and nothingness.

Jonas Lindblood

Interview with Jonas Lindblood
(Puteraeon)

Hail Jonas! Welcome to Archangel’s Lantern! Tell us please, when did you join metal music? What was your first band?

- Hi Georgius! I've been listening to metal since back in 1984 when I started school. Back then it was mainly bands like W.A.S.P, Mötley Crüe, Accept and Twisted Sister. And that interest has been with me now for 30 years. I found Death Metal back in 1990 and i guess that made me form my first band. It was a really shitty band hahaha. We were called Tomb. I wanted to play death metal and the other 2 guys wanted to play punk. I've never been into punk so we split up and i started playing in another band called Goreblast. Back in 1993 a friend of mine called me up and told me that a death metalband from Gothenburg needed a new guitarist. That band was called Deformed, and that band evolved into TAETRE later, which was my first real serious thing i guess.

You started with Puteraeon in 2008 and if I’m not mistaken, you recorded all the instruments on first two demos. Would you be so kind to speak briefly about the beginnings?

- Yes that's right. In the early 2000's I got bored with almost every death metal release. The music had become to polished. To nice and dull. I sat home writing complicated stuff and my girlfriend told me it sounded like crap. "Write some real death metal instead" she said. That was a real eyeopener for me. I got a nice Dismember-like sound and just started to right easy old school sounding death metal, trying to capture the old rotten vein of the music, that got lost in the early '2000-s. In the beginning it wasn't meant to be a band, it was just something i did for fun by myself on my spare time.

With Puteraeon you have 3 awesome old-school full-length + a split with Revel in Flesh. Who write(s) the music in general and please enlighten us about lyrical conception of the band! How did you meet with your label, Cyclone Empire? What were reactions in metal press about latest masterpiece, ”The Crawling Chaos”?

- As you know, I did 3 demos first. I actually did everything myself on all those 3 demos. I spoke to Anders (drums) and Daniel (bass) about getting the project as it was earlier into a band. Around the time when we finally started rehearsing, we got  the deal from Cyclone Empire, much thanks to Ralf from Revel in Flesh who spoke both to us and Cyclone. We had like 5 offers before that but we decided to go with Cyclone Empire. At That moment we had 24 songs released on the 3 demos to use on the album. We wrote 2 new and used old songs and re-recorded them for the first album. Up to that i have done everything, all music and all lyrics. On the 2nd album Rune wrote 2 tracks and we co-wrote 1, the rest of the songs I wrote. On "The Crawling Chaos" Rune wrote 4 songs and I wrote 6. I've been writing all lyrics all the time. Nowadays, it's pretty much the same. Me and Rune write the music but everybody in the band comes with input and stuff, but usually when me or Rune present the stuff to the rest of us we have to basic structure complete, so the rest of us just add some ideas about it. Small adjustments really. The lyrics have been about zombies and such stuff in the beginning to evolve into more Lovecraft themes, this started on our 3rd demo "The extraordinary works of Herbert West". I got really influenced of Lovecraft back in 2008 early 2009. I got laid of from my work so i had to much time hahaha. It kind of stuck. Also, i think Cthulhu and such topics work really great with the kind of music that we play. I was a bit fed up with questions about Cthulhu and Lovecraft after our 2nd album "Cult Cthulhu" and we said, let's do something else on the next album, but, when i started writing lyrics for "The crawling Chaos" the Cthulhumythos was what inspired me again, so we decided to say "fuck it- we write about more Lovecraft stuff"!

As I’ve noticed, You will share the stages with an awesome Swedish band, The Crown (release-fest) next year in January. Tell to the readers please a little bit more about this blasting event! What are the things about your live activity this year?

- Yes! I think this will be a nice start for 2015. This year we've only played in Sweden and I think we've done way to few gigs, but that's just it when you don't have a booking agent. It's hard as hell to get gigs. Festivals around Europe seem to go for the same bands, so I guess they are all signed to some mayor companies or booking agents. We are still very much underground, very much do it yourself, that's why we rarely play outside Sweden. If you have the opportunity to see us, don't miss it, we are a live act TRULY!

You are playing also in Taetre (the album called "Out of Emotional Disorder" is one of my favourites of 1999). What we should know about activity of Taetre nowadays?

- Taetre was more or less put to rest back in 2009 or so. We gave up on our rehearsal place back in 2010 I think and haven't rehearsed or even hung out in at least 4-5 years. I think the killing blow for Taetre was that we recorded a 4th album back in 2004/2005 called "Psycopath" that was never released. I guess that made it to hard for us to move on and being creative.

You enjoyed as a guest musician on some tracks of the albums of bands Just Before Down, Megascavenger and Ulverheim. Please speak about this collaboration a bit.

- All of these project or bands are run by friends of mine and just fun time for me. I guess I put a weekend all together on these 3 guest-appearances. Mainly I did it just to help my friends and to have  some fun at the same time.

I also like so much your artworks of Puteraeon. Who did them?

- All artwork have been done by friends of ours. Back on the first demo a close friend of mine since school Johan Ryding did our logo and just for fun draw up a zombie. I decided that would fit perfect for the cover for the first demo hahaha. Well he said later that if he'd knew that I would use it as cover he would have put more time into it as it was in his intentions never though of as anything more than a little thing on the same paper as he did the logo on. After that, from the 2nd demo "The requiem" and all the way to the latest album "The crawling chaos" a Christoffer Fredriksson has made all artwork for us. Christoffer is also a good friend of the band and have been with us on some gigs on the road helping out too. I usually come up with the ideas for the art and Christoffer comes with his input, we talk about it. Then he starts his magic and I guide him in my vision. The end result has always been great! On the new album he's done artwork inside the booklet for every song. An illustration deeply connected with the lyrics. I think it was really cool and I think the whole package looked really really good!

Swedish scene is so amazing with a tons of bands. Recommend us, please some bands from your local area.

- Hard question really. We live in a small town 30 minutes drive outside Gothenburg called Alingsås. Both me and Rune have grown up in Gothenburg though. But Alingsås doesn't have much interesting music in my ears. But some really cool bands worth checking out from Sweden is Turbocharged, Paganizer, Blood Mortized, Instestinal, Nominon, Bombs of Hades, Entrails, Smothered, Sinner's Burn.

Name us your all top favourite albums (if you have books and movies, them also). Do you have some special hobbies beside the music?

- I've always been very creative, but music has always been the most important thing to me. But i do a lot of sketching with pen too. Now, being a parent many of those things have been pushed aside a bit, there's simply not enough time for everything. Working, being together with my family and writing or rehearsing/playing with Puteraeon really takes most of all time i got. But when i got time over i really enjoy watching tv shows, drinking well crafted beers or playing the xbox. My favorite music is basically the music I've been listening to for the last 30 years. My favorite albums differ in a way from month to month, but to name some of them Guns n' Roses "Appetite for destruction", W.A.S.P first album, King Diamond "Them", Mercyful Fate "Don't break the oath", Slayer "Reign in blood", Megadeth "Rust in peace", Napalm Death "Utopia banished", At The Gates "With fear i kiss the burning darkness", Dismember "Like an Everflowing stream", Entombed "Clandestine", Grave "You'll never see", Dissection "The Somberlain", Carcass "Symphonies of sickness", Deicide "Legion", Morbid Angel "Altars of madness", Behemoth "Evangelion", Merciless "Unbound", Iron Maiden "Killers", Gorefest "False", Death "Symbolic", Mayhem "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", Sepultura "Arise", Cannibal Corpse "Eaten back to life", Pestilence "Testimony of the Ancients", Vader "De Profundis". I also listened a lot to the first Ghost album wich i think is really good, reminding of a softer more pop-like Mercyful Fate. When it comes to books i don't read that much nowadays as i did when i was younger, mainly as i said earlier because lack of time. But i managed to read the George RR Martin "A song of ice and fire", Love the show Game of Thrones too. Other authors i enjoy is obviously H.P Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz among others. Clive Barkers early stuff is absolutely amazing mix of horror and sci-fi. Other TV shows i like besides Game of thrones are, The walking dead, Sopranos, Boardwalk empire, American Horror-story, Hannibal etc.

What foods, drinks, cigars, tobaccos  can you recommend us from your area?

- There is a little brewery from south of Sweden called Brekeriet who's doing really good beers! Other good beers can be found at Grebbestad brewery, Gotland brewery, Ocean brewery!

Archangel’s Lantern is dedicated to Jon Nödtveidt’s Glory and memory. Did you meet Jon ever? Would you be so kind to share some thoughts about him?

- Sure, I met Jon many times back in the 90's. He lived for a couple of years in Gothenburg so we met mostly at shows but also in town and on tramps and so. Some close friends of mine were closer to MLO than I was back then, I guess they were some kind of "prospects" or close too at least. It was a crazy time back in the mid 90's for sure in Gothenburg haha. Jon as a musician was flawless I think. Every album with Dissection has been really good!

Tack så mycket Jonas, share your  Puteraeon message to the readers.

- Thank you so much for this interview! Readers! Check out Puteraeon and enjoy the madness! Ia! Ia! Nyarlathotep!
