Hail Hellbutcher this is Georgius from Hungarian Kronos Mortus, I’m so happy to talk to such a legend as you!
- Thanks!
Would you be so kind to tell us about your awesome album? (In short about music and about lyrical themes)
- Yes. Well, the song. That’s the first song of the album, which is now released as the first kind of single for the album.
It’s called Sword of Wrath and it’s… I was thinking that this song could fit as opening for the album as it is. Yeah, it is a kind of epic intro and then it goes into some more, you know, Classic Speed, Thrash, Black metal style. And I thought it was a good introduction to the album, you know, for people that haven’t really listened to the music before. Obviously as it is a new band. And yeah, well, it showcases kind of this style that we are about more or less, you know. And about the lyrics of this one is it’s, yeah, kind of classic black metal lyrics. But I had some idea that I would have kind of some metaphors to like that we are continuing in the same path as you know the way that I’ve been doing my stuff before, you know. So, a non-stopping force. Heh, kind of.
Would you be so kind as to introduce your bandmates?
- Yes, bandmates are… The drummer is… this is actually the old drummer of Nifelheim, my previous band Devastator, he was playing in Nifelheim from 1999 till 2005. So he was in the band for six years and it was during the era of Servants of Darkness that album that we did back in… 24 years ago now. And yeah, so me and him, we were talking about doing some, you know, real, a real proper metal, playing some real metal, proper metal, you know.
And so we decided we should start up and do a band. And at the same time, simultaneously more or less, I was talking to another guy that I’ve known for many, many years called… Well that’s the guy called Necrophiliac in the Hellbutcher band.
And he was, he’s been playing in some other bands, but they haven’t really, you know, like been like… they haven’t, you know, done that much, you know, like tours and stuff like that. So, he was a little bit, you know, like frustrated about the situation. And then at the same time… so he asked me that, do you, don’t you know any fucking band that, you know, needs a guitarist? And I was like, “Yeah, well, I need a guitarist!”. And I know him since many, many years. So yeah, I knew, I knew already that he was a great, great guitarist and great songwriter because we have been like jamming before and previously for some stuff that never was released. But you know… So we three were the first line up you can say, but we tried to figure out who was going to do the bass guitar and the second guitar.
So, I reached out to a friend from Norway called Eld in the band. He’s a Norwegian guy that I know and he’s been playing in some black metal bands over there. He’s in Aeternus if you know that band from Norway and some other bands. I actually chose to contact him, even if he lives in another country, because he’s a big fan of Iron Maiden just as I am and I know he plays bass guitar with his fingers, you know, and really tries to do the kind of Steve Harris, Steve Harris-style playing, you know, which is absolutely needed in my opinion. So, I thought he might be interested in. Yeah, he was obviously also interested in joining the band. So, he’s there and then the 2nd guitarist is the guy friend of mine, also the guitarist actually from Unleashed.
Frederik?
- Yes, Frederik, yes, he’s absolutely an amazing guitarist. So, and I know him also from different projects we have been playing in and stuff like that. So, I asked him, he was immediately on it, you know. So yeah, well that’s the that’s the band more or less.
Yes. You did everything yourself there was no external producer. I think it makes the evil spirit of your music even better and stronger. What is your opinion?
- Yeah, well my opinion is that you know, it’s very hard to explain to some external person what your vision and your, you know, actual what you’re trying to achieve really. So, if it’s possible, you know you should do everything yourself because then it’s going to turn out exactly how you want. It’s not going to be some person that have some idea about ”Well we need this blah blah blah” bullshit stuff. You know, if you used to things your own way. And luckily enough we are kind of all… We have been in the metal scene for a long time. We have done a lot of stuff so we don’t need any help from any producer or so.
So Hellbutcher is a new band but you have a lot of experiences more than four decades or more…
- Yeah.
…of hellish music behind you. How would you describe the difference between Hellbutcher and your past band Nifelheim?
- Yeah well, the difference is it’s a different line up which is the biggest difference probably. I was thinking when I started this band that it would… In one way, I wanted to make the same kind of music more or less like Nifelheim, because Nifelheim just fell apart. It wasn’t really, you know, I had no plans of, you know, quitting, playing this kind of music or whatever, you know. So, I was just thinking that I’m just going to continue more or less like I’ve always done.
But if there is any difference, of course this band, I would say we… I, I don’t have any like special borders or limits that I’m thinking you should hold your music inside some kind of form or shape. It’s… I would do a little bit more far out things in this band probably, but it’s not going to be like, well, when I say things like that, maybe people think that I’m going to start playing some weird kind of music, you know? But that won’t happen. It will, it will be kind of the same as this album, more or less.
Yes, I understand. I see.
- But maybe some people have told me that there is some more heavy metal kind of influences, which is, yeah, probably true in some sense. I listen very much to, you know, the classic metal stuff, you know, so I’m obviously kind of inspirited by that.
Your debut album will be released via the Metal Blade records in the end of May. I think for an old school band like yours, it’s a great choice because Metal Blade has its own roster like Mercyful Fate, King Diamond. How did it happen, your alliance with Metal Blade?
- Well, it was actually, you know, I had some different views about, from in the Nifelheim days. I had the idea that, you know, like I wanted to have like a label that could push the music forward a bit, you know, like Metal Blade is doing. But the other guys or some of the other members, they were very, you know, into that.
Now it’s going to be, you know, underground La La La La. So, I’ve always wanted to try to get you know like well bigger label you know to that can actually get you know like you push the music a little bit further than what I’ve been doing before. So I was really trying to get a really good… some good record label and I was I was getting help from some a kind of friendly… a friend from Germany who is working with this kind of stuff. So, we have I don’t know how long time it took months to get you know together some record deal. But now, in the end, I’m very, very happy about that. It it was worth the wait really because Metal Blade seems to be a perfect, perfect label for this band at least.
Yes, yes, yes. I really liked a lot that your awesome video single and do you plan on doing any new single before release or after release?
- Yeah, it’s all that kind of stuff is up to Metal Blade, but I know that there will be some more stuff coming before the album as well as to promote the album. So, I don’t know what they want me to tell you. I think they want to have it like a kind of thing that they introduced. So, I’ll just say that there will be more stuff coming.
(I talked to Pelle Hellbutcher on the 29th of April and They released a new single
on the 14th of May called Hordes Of The Horned God -GF/)
Yes! My friend Andrew/Andrey was on your three shows. I saw some live footages from Stockholm and Dark Easter meeting in the Germany, Munich, if I’m not mistaken.
- Yes, yes.
Pelle Hellbutcher and Andrey Misanthrope,
Dark Easter Metal Meeting Festival, München (31.03.2024)
I like a lot everything what I watched on YouTube and I noted that on the show your line up at live has been a little bit different.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s been a very weird situation sometimes the on the first album, or on the first gig I mean the bass player the Norwegian guy he got injured pretty bad so we had to get a session bass guitarist he had to learn all the songs in just one week you know because it was very you know like chaotic.
So that’s why we had a different bass player at the first album and the and then there was something going on with the drummer so we had to have a session drummer for that. So actually, we haven’t played a live concert with the actual line up yet. I don’t know. It’s the thing is that I am, you know, not going to… and we are all, we agree all of it in the band that it’s, you know if there is trouble like that we’re not going to like cancel any gigs or so. We will just continue because I mean it’s important to start somewhere and get out on the roads and stuff like that. So at the moment we have this guy Perra, the drummer from..well Deströyer 666
Yes, from Perracide! I listened to your Satanic vocals on Nifelheim covers, it’s awesome!
-Yeah, yeah 😊
Perra Karlsson of Perracide and Andrey Misanthrope
Dark Easter Metal Meeting Festival, München (31.03.2024)
Excellent!
- So, well he’s going to do some gigs with us now until things have been sorted out with the Devastator. And well, I heard also now that the session bass player, the first, the one we had at the first gig, he also got injured. You know, they are all in traffic accidents. So now he has crashed with a bus with his car, you know, it’s like not good to be a bass player in this band.
We are metal brothers with Tobias Fongelius of ex-Jormundgand/Voodus since 2009 when I ordered from him Jormundgand demo Satanic Attack. Oh, I have it because he sent me.
- Yeah. Yeah, this one. Yeah.
And it was you to help them with cover art because I have that shirt, Jormundgand T-shirt and you did on Satanic Attack track awesome backing vocals or similar like that. How do you remember those times?
- Well, I was, I’m friends with the guy Tobias, Tobbe, and yeah, well it was nothing special. He just asked me if I could do some guest vocals for the demo tape. They were totally unknown back at the time. So, I thought like, well, yes, we, you know, we are friends. I can always do some vocals for his demo tape. Nothing special. I was thinking you know.
And what your opinion about Voodus band?
- Yeah, well they have, since that demo tape they have developed a lot, I must say. They sound like, yeah they are way… they are like really, I would say better now, you know, in my opinion.
From your personal collection Tobbe sent me dedicated Nifelheim vinyl, It’s your dedication:
- Oh nice!
And Necrocurse, what about I wrote my Hungarian review. It’s your dedication. I don’t know if you see it. Your dedication.
- Yeah, maybe. Yeah. They I can see some something there in the middle. Yeah.
So, I’m. I’m so honoured for that! And a question: Is there any chances to continue Necrocurse. I don’t know a little bit later?
- Yeah. The funny thing is that I’m, I’m in contact with all of the members of Necrocurse still. And the thing with Necrocurse just vanished without… no one knows why actually. It was just like, yeah, yeah, we were rehearsing kind of once a week and then it was like “Uh, I cannot come next week.”. And then it was a month and then it was two months and then suddenly we didn’t even play anymore. So, there is an absolutely a chance that we could make something more because we have like an album already finished with new material. So, it is like we have plenty of songs and I was thinking… I was talking to the drummer Nicklas Rudolfsson and the guitarist Mörda just a few weeks ago and we said we could do something like that. Doesn’t take too much time like EP or mini album or something like four or five songs. Just to not waste all the effort we did back in the days writing the songs and stuff like that. And they seem to be totally honest. I’m not sure when it’s going to happen, but it’s absolutely a chance that we will do something more with the Necrocurse as well.
Yes! I am an old fan of Nifelheim, of course since early 90s and Dissection.
- Yes!
A question: What are your favorite albums and tracks of Jon Nödtveidt’s heritage?
(Jon Andreas Nödtveidt (R.I.C.) and me 10th of June, 2005, Budapest, A 38)
- Yeah, well, that’s a big, that’s a really tough question. I like all of it actually, you know? But yeah, it’s yeah, you know I am because the old stuff, you know, I listened to it since it was… I listened to Dissection since like they released their first EP, you know when. That’s a long time ago. So, I get kind of nostalgic when I hear this stuff, but I think that the ‘Reinkaos’ album is also totally, you know, amazing. So yeah, yeah, it’s almost impossible to pick one song. Yeah, I must… I will tell you that we in the Hellbutcher, the band, we actually, before we played the first gig, we rehearsed ‘Frozen’ from Dissection.
(from left to right: me, Jon (R.I.C.) and Cornelius of Castrum/Encomium,
10.VI.2005, Budapest. A38)
- Yeah, so it’s maybe we’ll play it live sometime, you know. Yes. So, I like that song for example. But I also like yeah, the instrumental song 'Reinkaos' is one of my favourites as well.
It’s brilliant as the entire album.
- Yes, yes, I like it.
(from left to right: me, Victor of Castrum and Jon (R.I.C.)
10.VI.2005, Budapest, A38)
Well, a little bit about Hungary: as far as I know you never played with Nifelheim in Hungary, if I’m not mistaken, but have you been ever in Hungary?
- Yes, I’ve been in Hungary.
On Iron Maiden? :)
- Yes. And we had, you know the guitarist from Tormentor, Tamás.
Buday Tamás
- Yes, yes, yes. So, when he lived in Hungary, I was at his place visiting him sometime or if it was his wife or whatever it was. I was in a in a flat somewhere in in Budapest anyway. And yeah, I’ve been there occasionally, a few times for Maiden and a few times just for you know like something else. I don’t even remember, but I’ve been there plenty of times. Anyway.
What are your favorite Hungarian bands?
- Well, I must say that my favorite there is a.. You know, I actually listened to quite a few of them. It’s a lot but I mean from the Thrash and the Black metal style, I must say like Tormentor is probably that’s the best.
(Cornelius of Castrum/Encomium, Attila Csihar and me,
10.VI.2005, Budapest, A38)
I saw some live videos with you and Attila Csihar in Sweden it was awesome!
- I would say Tormentor is probably the best of the Hungarian thrash black metal style. I listen to all these old bands there is you know actually when I was young there was a Swedish guy called Natt/Sår, he had a Heavy metal or a Black metal fanzine in in the early 80s. He wrote a band, he wrote about a band called, I don’t know if you know them, it’s called Fantom from Hungary. This band, I got some rehearsals from this band, it’s kind of old stuff. And then I have, yeah, I listen to, you know, like they had all those bands that they had… Detonator and stuff like that. Kind of good stuff, yeah.
(Victor of Castrum, Attila Csihar and me
10.VI.2005, Budapest, A38
Pokolgép?
- And yeah, I listen to Heavy Metal, I listen to Pokolgép, you know, the old Ossian stuff, of course. And even I like some albums of P. Mobil. Yeah. Well, I listened to what, what… Fucking hell. I can’t remember all the records of… yeah Rotor.
Yeah I got a few albums of them and then yeah, well there is there is there are so many you know, now my brain stops thinking but obviously Pokolgép and yeah all that stuff. Very, very good. I like it very much. I think the Hungarian this… the metal scene in Hungary must have been really good too. If you look at it compared to other Eastern block countries, some of them almost have no old bands that made records and stuff. But in Hungary it seemed to be a really good metal scene.
(Victor of Castrum, Attila Csihar and me,
10.VI.2005 Budapest, A38)
I really enjoyed your awesome vocals on Bombarder III. You are an old friend with Nešo Nenad Kovačević of Bombarder.
Share some thoughts about recording process because I watched the video Bombarder III.
- Yeah. Well, it was very much the thing is I don’t have so much contact because he’s… he doesn’t speak really much English and I don’t speak the language…
…the same language. So, we mostly contact through the record label. Grom Records, I think.
Serbian Grom, yes.
- Yeah so well they, he asked if I could do the vocals for the some verse for the EP. And of course, I want to do that as I think Bombarder is one of my favourites, you know. So yeah, so I just had to do it. And so I was actually doing it at here at my…I have a recording vocal recordings stuff at, yeah, my rehearsal studio here in where I live in Halmstad, Sweden. So I used to did that and send it over and then they mixed the vocals and then they wanted to do the video stuff as well. So yeah, well, I just, I just filmed it, you know, here as well. So I never went down there or anything. It was all done from Sweden. But still I’m very happy. I’m very pleased to be on the EP and the album because yeah, well, it’s a kind of… What can you say, it’s… it’s to me very, very cool to be on a Bombarder album. It’s a dream for me.
You’re also a friend with Luiz of Vulcano. Did you listen to their latest album?
- Yeah, I always, I always listen to the Vulcano stuff. They are also one of my favorite bands. So yeah. So yeah, I think they just… they’re just great.
All of… all of the albums they did, you know. Well, the old ones have their this special place of course like Bloody Vengeance and stuff like that. But except for that I think they’re… all the new stuff is very very good all over. So yeah.
Thank you very much. Oh, I just took a look, we have less than a minute ☹ I had a ton of questions maybe next time again…
- Yeah, you can always you can always get in.
Can I ask you through Tobbe/Tobias Fongelius, because we are friends on Facebook and I have a small web blog Archangel’s Lantern and maybe next time...
- Yes, sure. Yeah, sure. Just talk to Tobbe, if you have contact with him and you and he will. We can get some more stuff going, absolutely, absolutely.
Yes! So, Hellbutcher I am so honoured for the awesome talking. Tack så mycket!
- Yeah, tack så mycket! Thank you!
Wish you an awesome day, all the best with Hellbutcher and I hope we will see you live and you will dedicate me a lot of stuff!
- Yes, yes, absolutely. And I hope to come to Hungary and have some gigs there sooner or later, you know. All right.
Hail Luiz, I’m so honoured to make this interview with you for my small own inferno Archangel’s Lantern. Let’s start with your latest news of Vulcano:
The band recorded a new full-length in October. When will be released your new masterpiece? Tell the readers more about the recording process. Which label will be unleashed it?
Luiz Carlos Louzada – Hey, Georgius! What´s up? Yeah, Vulcano recorded another studio album during this fucking pandemic times. No tours to support alive our albums, but we have health, so let´s work in new music! This time our new album “Stone Orange” will be out through Emanzipation Prods, from Denmark, a label from Target Group. We released our last studio effort “Eye in Hell” in 2020 through Mighty Music, a company also from Target Group. Emazipation Prods released 2 singles from our upcoming album (you can listen this stuff on Spotify, Youtube Music and a lot of others choices). We´ll have a 3rd single to be release soon and finally, we´ll have “Stone Orange” available on stores and streamings. We were working on this stuff since mid 2020 when our agency in London cancelled our European tour because the pandemic. We started to record on 2021/February and finished the mix on 2021/May. I think this new album is the most fastest Vulcano stuff from the last decade, and if you´re like Blackened Thrash/Speed bands, you´ll enjoy it!
You sent me an awesome track from Australian horde Putrid Hope, where you are involved as well. Enlighten us about this awesome alliance.
LCL – Putrid Hope is a new Death Metal band that starts activities in 2020 and the “boss” is my friend Pedro Bueno, Punctured Wound guitarist. He lives in Gold Coast, a city in Queensland Estate, Australia. When Zhema was working on new riffs to Vulcano, the others guys of the band had a lot of time to do another projetcs. So I was talking with Pedro about the bad times with covid and he told me that have a bunch of songs that he wrote but was no used in Punctured Wound. He send me 3 or 4 songs and I asked him to put vocals. He did a mix in his own studio and after that we planned to do an entire album. So he joined forces with other 2 Australian musicians and I invited my friend Ricardo Lima to do some guitar solos (he played with me in bands like Chemical Disaster, Predatory, Front Attack Line and Repulsão Explícita). With the line-up completed, we finished 10 songs, and released 3 singles (check it on Bandcamp and Youtube). Pedro are dealing with a Canadian label to release our debut album, soon he finish the mix.
Would you be so kind to talk about other band where you are playing, namely Hierarchical Punishment?
LCL – This band was formed in 1994 and always did a mix of Death Metal and Grindcore. I joined the band in 2001 as vocalist and in a few months we recorded our 3rd demo “Res Derelicta”. At that time we worked to spread our stuff in a lot of compilations through many underground labels. In 2006 we released our 4th demo “My Life is a Torture” and still being part of compilations-CDs and before our 1st album, we released in 2010 a 3-way split-cd with Forbidden Ideas… (Brazil) and Agathocles (Belgium). Then we finally released our debut-cd “The Humanity Walks This Way” in 2014. But in the end of 2014 the band had some line-up changes, and I went to drums. Our 2nd album “The Choice” was released in 2017 and it´s half studio songs (with me singing in 4 old songs), plus a live gig we did in 2015 (with me on drums). Our 3rd album “Psychotic Disorders” was released in 2021 and it´s our best stuff, totally into Death Metal! Check it out on internet!
Brazilian Front Attack Line will release its debut album. (You told me, you were their drummer some years ago and now you are the vocalist) Share with us all the important information of Front Line Attack.
LCL – I knew Front Attack Line when Allan Farias (guitar and founding member) give me a copy of the 1st demo “Mass Destruction” from 2007. In 2010 I played drums together Allan and André (Front Attack Line bass player) in a band called Intrisicum and some months after I leave this band, Allan asked me to join Front Attack Line to record a 2nd demo. So in 2011 we start to rehearse the songs to be part of “Conflicts of War” demo, that was released in 2012. In 2014 we start to record a 3rd demo, but Allan decide to move to another city far from Santos (where I live) and he reformulate the line-up with another musicians. At the same time he enter Circle of Infinite (a Thrash Metal band from Limeira city) and Front Attack Line was on hold. In the end of 2020, Allan asked me to rejoin the band as vocalist, so he bring back the songs he wrote in the past for the unfinished 3rd demo and wrote some more new stuff. I recorded all vocals in my home studio and the mix and mastering was done by Ivan Pellicciotti (ex-Vulcano bass player). We just release our 1st single “Brainwashing” from our upcoming debut-album and everyone can check the 2 demos and this new single on Spotify, Youtube…Thrash Metal as its best!!!!
What is the current situation with Chemical Disaster? (Your latest release was a split material “Pain of Chemical Sufferings” with Swedish old schoolers of In Pain 2 years ago). By the way what is your opinion about In Pain’s full-length “The Sound of Death”?
LCL – After the release of the split-cd with In Pain, we changed our drummer, and during the 1st pandemic year, Chemical Disaster release 2 songs in different tribute albums through Armadillo Recs (from UK): we did “Watchin’ You” (from 1974 Kiss 2nd album “Hotter Than Hell”) and “Wrathchild” (from 1981 Iron Maiden 2nd album “Killers”). At the same time we wrote 8 new Death Metal songs for our 5th album and recorded a pre-production of this stuff. In the end of 2021 we recorded a version of “More Than a Feeling” from Boston debut album (1976) that will be released in another tribute album through Secret Service Recs (also from UK) maybe in the middle of 2022. But things are harder, and we had some line-up changes after this recording process, and now our bass player are with covid-19, so we need to stop rehearsals. I hope we come back to finish 2 more new songs, and start the recordings. Let´s see… And about In Pain debut album is amazing! I love their typical Swedish sound. These guys are pretty awesome!
You’ve found a Brazilian Thrash/Death record label Violent Records in August 2004, if I’m not mistaken. How many stuff you’ve released through the years? Are there any plans for new ones in the near future?
LCL – I always was a tape-trader in the past, so when I start with Violent Recs I continue to promote underground music, releasing bands all over Brazil and as you know we are a country with more than 210 million people here, so we have a lot of cool bands to promote. With Violent Recs I released 84 pro-done albums and released demos (cd-r format) of my bands. But in 2012 I decided to starts a new label with a different approach (as Violent Recs runs to a more Death/Black/Thrash direction), so Bagaça Recs was born to release some bands in the vein of Punk, Stoner, Metal/Rock, Grind, Heavy styles, and we did 17 pro-done CDs. Both labels together, we released 101 albums. It´s a good number to an independent company.
According to Encyclopaedia Metallum, you are playing in such hordes, as KillMister (vocals), Predatory (drums), Preguh (drums) Repulsão Explícita (drums). Would you be so kind to tell some thoughts about these bands?
LCL – Yeah! I do the vocals in KillMister and we mix Heavy Metal with R&R but it is on hold since pandemic starts in 2020/March. Gerson Fajardo (guitar player) told me that he pretend to write new stuff. We released 2 cds with some killer bonus live tracks from a session tribute that we did for Motörhead. Gerson plays with me in Vulcano since 2016. Predatory was a Thrash Metal band that I play drums for 11 years; we recorded 3 demos and a “full-length” but this band no exist anymore since 2015. Preguh is a band that mix Hardcore with some Grindcore and Thrash influences; I was their drummer and we recorded a demo (“O Império e a Favela” from 2007) and participate in some compilations-cd. In 2013 we released a 3-way split-cd with Agathocles (Belgium) and Archagathus (Canada). I´m not playing anymore with Preguh, but the band recorded new stuff with another line-up. Repulsão Explícita was formed in 2001 and I was their drummer until 2015, recording all stuff that was released. We start doing Punk/HC with some heavy riffs, but after our 4th demo “Terra e Vida” (from 2006) the songs had more Grindcore and Thrash Metal influences. We released 2 albums (1st in 2011 and 2nd in 2014). After some years on holding, I was invited to rejoin the band and now we´re working in songs to be our 3rd album.
KillMister
Which vocalists and drummers influenced you back in the day and what are your favourite ones nowadays?
LCL – I start as a young fan of Bruce Dickinson, Bon Scott, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan, Paul Stanley, Klaus Meine as singers, and Ian Paice, Nicko McBrain, Vinnie Appice, Nigel Glocker, Neil Peart as drummer, in the beginning of ‘80s. But when I start my own bands I was 100% into Death Metal, listening bands like Bolt Thrower, Grave, Obituary, Dismember, Morgoth, Unleashed, Pestilence, Entombed, and listen a lot of Brazilian bands such as Vulcano, Sarcófago, Panic, Mutilator, Korzus, Chakal, Attomica, Sepultura, Taurus, Holocausto, Psÿchic Possessor… Well, nowadays, I still listening all this bands but of course, as a musician, everyday we can discover on internet good new singers or drummers.
Almost 12 years ago (on the 27th of October, 2010) my good old Swedish friend Tobias Fongelius (ex-Jormundgand, Voodus) via his Burning Eye Productions organized in Gothenburg/Göteborg a massive metal evening when Swedish RAM, Nifelheim and Vulcano played. How do you remember that awesome event? Which Swedish bands are your personal favourites?
LCL – Maaaaaaan, this was our 1st time playing in Gothenburg and it was so fucking cool; a sold out gig!!!!!!! Vulcano & Nifelheim released in 2007 a split-ep but this time was our 1st gig together, and the guys was so crazy and friendly that we build a great true friendship. I think I had see about 36 Nifelheim entire shows from this 1st time in 2010. We toured twice in Europe with this motherfuckers (2013 & 2014)! About Swedish bands, I mentioned some cool bands in my previous answer, but I can include now In Pain (of course!), Dissection, Candlemass, Bathory, God Among Insects, Hypocrisy, Those Who Bring the Torture, Dark Funeral, Witchery, At the Gates, Krux… Sweden rules!
I’ve watched today Vulcano’s brilliant live performance (Live at Black Winter Festival) in Gliwice, Poland 21.XI.2019. Are there any memories from that evening? Did you play in other countries that year?
LCL – This gig in Poland was amazing! The festival was full of true headbangers! We played together Profanatica (from US) and I remember that we drink a lot of shots of Vodka ‘cause was a freezing night! 2019 was our 6th European tour and this Poland gig was in the middle of the tour. We also did gigs in countries like Netherlands, France, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Czech Republic, UK, Spain, Portugal… We did the tour between November/December 2019.
As far as I know you are from Santos. I’ve seen some beautiful photos about your nice city. (Unfortunately I’ve never been in Brazil so far) What interesting places could you recommend me to visit in Santos? Brazilian cuisine is very rich and tasty. Which local drinks and foods are your recommendations?
LCL – Santos is a city in an island, so we have cool beaches and a lot of sunny days. In our region (called “Baixada Santista”) we have 9 cities and Santos is the city with most inhabitants (about 434.000 people lives here in Santos) in 281.000 km2. We have one of the most important ports of the Latin America. But about tourism there´s a lot of cool places to know like museums, aquariums, tours across the island, or boat trips, and if you like football, you should visit the Santos F.C. team stadium (where Pelé played for many years). Brazilian cuisine is influenced by the many different nationalities of the immigrants who colonized our country. If you like chicken you can try “Frango à Passarinho”, that is crispy pieces of fried spices chicken, with French fries. Or you can taste any fish options, that is very common here.
Perhaps you know that my small blog is dedicated to the memory of Jon Andreas Nödtveidt and after the departure of Lars-Göran Petrov I put a dedication to poor Lars as well.
What is your opinion about them and share with us your favourite tracks and albums from their heritage. Did you meet and play with them live?
LCL – I didn´t have the chance to share the stage with Jon or Lars, but their extreme art will live forever in the hearts and minds of fans around the world. Lars recorded a lot of stuff, with different bands, but his most important album for me is “Left Hand Path”, from 1990 (the title track is incredible). And 5 years after this classic album, Jon released the 2nd Dissection album “Storm of the Light’s Bane”, an amazing full-length that mix melody and mid-tempo parts (like in “Where Dead Angels Lie”) and brutal stuff with insane vocals like in “Soulreaper”. Jon also recorded many work with different bands, but I think he was so young when decided to finish his time on Earth… Just 31 years old…
Brazilian underground scene is has a lot of amazing bands. What hordes are your favourites since the beginnings and in our days?
LCL – Wow, another question that I already listed some cool bands before, but l need to say that I like very much bands as Dorsal Atlântica, Paura, Tortured Squad, Ação Direta, Krisiun, Oligarquia, Sociedade Armada, Infector, Clamus, Suffocation of Soul, Rotten Penetration, Mata Borrão, Atropina, Thrashera, Daimonos, Morfolk, HeadKrusher, Justabeli, Visceral Slaughter, Evil Empire, Reffugo and many other bands!
Obrigado/Thank you very much Luiz. Send please some thoughts in the end to complete this interview.
LCL – Georgius, I really enjoyed the interview! And I like to say to everyone that read this, to check on internet all my bands and the releases I did with Violent
Recs and Bagaça Recs. You can find a lot of stuff on Youtube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify, and social medias like Facebook, Instagram…
"Nowadays there's really just a few record labels left true to the underground spirit and its former magic. So I am really happy to introduce you Burning Eye Productions from Sweden, a young label, which definitely follows the path of the true underground spirit. All the latest news & future plans were kindly transmitted to us by Tobbe (who also appears as guitarist/vocalist for Jormundgand)!"
Cornelius of Castrum/Encomium
Is there any special reason for forming Burning Eye Productions? Tell us in short the story behind your label.
- The main reason to start Burning Eye Productions was because we, Tobbe and Erika, felt that we refused to compromise with our material. One label didn't like our cover art and told us to change. One label didn't like the name "Jormundgand". Another one didn't like the "Occult Sacrifice" and "By the Grace of Death" songs and asked us if it was possible to skip those hymns! (Assholes!) So that was a huge reason for us to start our own label - Total control of the product and our creation without compromising with some fuckheads ideas about how it should look or sound like!
The other reason is that we have a great interest in arranging gigs. So when we had just started Burning Eye Productions we decided to arrange a gig straight away. We wanted it to be a gig to remember and it ended up with a killer lineup! Vulcano, legendary black/death from Brazil, (on their first tour outside South America). The black metal gods Nifelheim and one of the best fucking heavy metal bands around - RAM! We named this magical night to "Thunder Metal Massacre".
Enlighten us the plans Burning Eye Productions for the forthcoming years.
- We will split up Burning Eye Productions in two parts. One part for arranging gigs (with bands that WE think is kicking ass with all other bands) and it doesn't necessarily have to be a big and famous band, as long as the true spark and dedication is there, it will catch our ears! The other part will search for bands that we want to give the mark of Burning Eye Productions. And we won't force the bands to erase tracks, change bandnames or logos! We feel and appreciate the music and the true art behind it instead of just looking at the surface, counting money.
You've done a gig under the banner of Burning Eye Productions with the following bands: Vulcano, Nifelheim, RAM. How did it turn out? Do you have similar actions planned for the future too?
- To return to the question about "Thunder Metal Massacre"; It was truly a great success! It was almost sold out even though the gig was to take place on a Wednesday! All the bands were 100% on top and it was a hell of a great time as well as in the audience as backstage between the bands! The bar had never sold so much beer on a weekday before!!!
We have plans to arrange a gig again in the near future. But first we have some other stuff to take care of... You will see...
Now some other kind of question. Does the Viking heritage influence you in one or other way? Or Satanism is above all?
- Well, I guess that the "Pagan" or "Folk" tunes influence us in one way or another. But the direction of Jormundgand is very clear to us. It's all an obeisance to Satan and the dark depths in our within, where the black flame grows stronger for each day! Lylusay Tateros Volt Sids Lucifer! Ave Lucifer!
You play in Jormundgand. Can we expect your band's materials to be released on Burning Eye Productions?
- Yes. The thing is that we have some more material to record and after that we are going to release a 12” EP trough Burning Eye Productions.
What Black Metal means to you?
- Black Metal to me is total devotion and dedication to the dark. A tool to place a seed in the inner self of the listeners, and hopefully they will let it grow and find the strength to search the truth and to explore the undefiled paths that is, for the blind, covered in shadows and darkness!
Do you play live with Jormundgand? If so, do you use Satanic symbols or effects to decorate your live performance?
- The thing is that we had some gigs, more or less ready, to play in the beginning of 2011. But as it always has been with Jormundgand, everything just felled apart in our hands and it was total chaos! We had to put the band aside for a moment and catch our breath. But now we rehearse more than ever before and we hope that Jormundgand will be ready for the stage in the end of 2011! The marks of Satan lives in myself and in my flesh. I guess that’s enough, at the moment. But we will have a great amount of bones and bone relations with us on stage!
For your previous materials you had guest appearances (both for cover art and for backing vocals too). Please tell us about that.
- Well, on the first demo "Satanic Attack", it was just me and Erika that played in the band. But our friends of the great band "Vornth" was helping us with the instruments that we needed. It all ended up with a full band for a while! Something that's quite rare in the history of Jormundgand! When it was time for the vocals I felt that we needed something more in the song "Satanic Attack". I asked "Hellbutcher" from Nifelheim if he wanted to put some backing vocals and he liked the material so he agreed. He helped us a lot with that demo. He painted the cover art, took the band photos and made the T-shirts as well! For the next coming release it will be "Tyrant" from Nifelheim doing the cover. I told him what I wanted and he delivered the most impressive piece of art! Both Tyrant and Hellbutcher are true artists!
If there would be a chance to invite a Ukrainian or Hungarian Black or Death metal band, which would it be?
- Hm, hard to say. It would be a great honor for us to have Tormentor if they started up again! Then we have Pokolgép, Nocturnal Rites, Domhring and Castrum.
I'm not that conversant in the Hungarian and Ukrainian metal scene and I'd really like you to recommend bands that you think I should listen to!
(I would definitely recommend you to listen to these Ukrainian bands: Nokturnal Mortum, Khors, Ulvegr, - Cornelius)
Tack!!! Hail Satan! Hail Azerate! Last Satanic rites for the end...
- Thanks my friends! If there is anyone who thinks that Burning Eye Productions sounds like the label for YOUR band, send a mail to our myspace:
