Peter Karlsson (The Pete Flesh Deathtrip) 1.IV.2013

  Interview with Peter Karlsson of

The Pete Flesh Deathtrip

Sadistik Witchfukk webzine, 1.IV.2013

Questions compiled by Georgius and Sorin Necrotrooper

Hailz Pete! Because this is your first interview with us, introduce us in your 'Deathtrip'!

- The ground to this solo project took its form in 2001. My visions were not 100% clear then, as I still was in Maze of Torment. But I knew that I wanted to do something on my own. It took some years, but in 2005 I entered the studio and recorded the debut album "Dödsångest". The first 3 albums were released just under the moniker "Flesh", but it's still the same regardless the changing to "The Pete Flesh Deathtrip".

How did you get interested in metal?

- I got into this metal world in the same way like most others around my age. Bands like W.A.SP., Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister etc. started to take more and more room in the media. I fell for it all directly! The expressions, the energy, the creativity. At that time I lived in a small village and didn't knew so much about the more brutal movement that was going on. But when I was 15 I moved into a bigger town where Merciless lived. I started to read logos from their jackets, that's how I found out about bands like Sodom, Sepultura, Bathory, Mayhem, Nihilist etc. My world and life was then completed.

You played in some bands during the years. Can you tell us about them, and if you're satisfied with the results now?

- If I only mention the ones that have done albums and not, are The Pete Flesh Deathtrip, Maze of Torment (I didn't played on the last one entitled "Hidden Cruelty"), Deceiver and Thrown. No, I'm not satisfied with them all, maybe 30% of them I would like to redo, like Deceiver's "Riding with the Reaper" which could have been a totally different album, if I should have waited some time before entering the studio with that one. Maze of Torment's debut album "The Force" will be always special to me. Also the last one I recorded, "Hammers of Mayhem". The first Deceiver M-CD is also a special one like Thrown's "The Suicidal Kings Occult".

Now speaking of " The Pete Flesh Deathtrip". It began under the name Flesh. Did you ever played any shows with it? (If yes, who helped you playing live? Was it the same studio line-up?)

- No live gigs yet. But it have been close two times. First, the old Deceiver line-up helped me at least to try, then this new one. But when every time I try, there is some sort of complications. If this will happen, everything must go perfect. I try to think out different scenarios for this to happen, and maybe someday it will happen. It would be cool.

Let's speak of your new album "Mortui Vivos Docent". Give us some info about it(recording process and such). Have you fixed a date for its release?

- The recording process of this album was very long, for 2 years. I also changed the studio from "The Abyss Studio" to record with Peter Bjärgö (Crypt of Kerberos, Arcana, Tyrant, The Black etc.). This studio is very close to where I live, so I could decide myself for example when it was the time to record down the bass. Maybe in retro-perspective some things could have gone faster to do. Also, I changed the session drummer to Adde (Vinterland, Tyrant, Nunfuckritual etc.) and to find time where we both could work on the drums was harder than we both knew from the beginning. Then also, for the first time I included a guest singer. He actually sings on half of the album: Micke Broberg (Unanimated, Celestial Pain etc.). He have also contributed with some lyrics. I had this idea that I wanted to do something different with this album, just to keep the listening more intersting, not just for the ones that buy the album, but also for me when it comes to the creative parts. I have done many, many albums that all ideas were mine, and it's hard to keep a whole album in a perspective where you just don't repeat yourself. I will keep working like this, but I will use different people all the time. Working like this will also help me to find inspiration, and new inputs on my own creative parts. The album have been delayed so many times now, for a lot of different reasons. But none of them will be layed on Pulverised Records, they are cool. But everything is sent to them now, I hope it will be out sometime in the summer of 2013. The album will also be out on vinyl on Temple of Whores records.

What do you think about the Swedish metal scene nowadays compared to the one in the 80s?

- For me there are totally different times. First of all, you didn't had internet back then, you had to be creative in a different way to spread your name, on a more root level. Today it's more about how many "likes" you have. Don't seem to matter if people who have liked your side, actually like your music. I don't say it's wrong to spread your music in different ways. I also take the time sometimes to ask close friends to maybe spread some, but not in a "down your through way". And also, if someone supports me, I fucking support them too. Today you also have tons of bands. It's impossible to follow the scene in the same way. There are so many different styles as well. I could be nostalgic, and say that everything was better back then, but that will not help me in any way at all. Things change: some to the better, some to the worse.

What is your opinion about Gothenburg metal? What about stuff such as Death'n'Roll?

- When it comes to the older bands from that area, there is a lot of good stuff. About newer stuff, nah, not so interested. Regarding death'n'roll, there is some good stuff. For me it has always been like "a good track is a good track, regardless genre, trend, or what the people say".

What do you think about mp3 downloads?

- It have been out there for so long now, that I don't really reflect on it. If you download and like the stuff and  you are into music in a way you should be, you also get the album. If people have some kind of brain, they will understand that bands that play this kind of music don't earn anything from it, it goes to be able to record a new album or maybe print some shirts.

Your top 10 all-time favourite metal albums?

- Those lists are impossible for me. I have tons of faves. Like you see on the list: no Slayer, no At the Gates, no Dismember, no Mayhem, no Death, no Judas Priest, no Destroyer 666, no The Exploited, no Terra Firma, no Candlemass, no Pink Floyd, no Misfits, no Kreator, no Destruction, no Sodom, no Dead can Dance, no Black Sabbath etc. All of them have done albums I likes as much as those I mention. Anyway, these bands are played a lot right now.

Dissection - "Storms of the Light's Bane"
Possessed - "Seven Churches"
Sadus - "Illusions"
Morbid Angel - "Altars of Madness"
Iron Maiden - "Killers"
Metallica - "Kill'em All"
Danzig - "Lucifuge"
Bathory - "Blood Fire Death"
Merciless - "The Awakening"
Mercyful Fate - "Don't Break the Oath"

Do you know any bands from Hungary, Ukraine and Romania? What other bands can you recommend us(from all the globe and also from Sweden)?

- Of course Tormentor. First time I heard "Anno Domini" it was like a new world was opened for me. Are Nokturnal Mortum from your area? Your 2 old bands, brother (Castrum and Domhring). Hmm, I should know more. I came across a band called Protest some time ago, I think they are from Romania. I know more. I can recommend "The Curse" from Sweden, also "Necrovation". "Anal Vomit" is great. A lot of bands out there.

Now regarding your local kitchen: what foods, drinks, tobaccoes can you recommend us?

- I have been sober for almost 7 years (long story). I have forgotten the names of drinks, but there were a lot of bloody Mary's to start the day. You get the breakfast in the same time in a way I only do "Snus" nowadays. When it comes tobacco, you know? Grov snus för fan! Food, it can be anything, I'm like a garbage... I eat almost anything.

Did you taught your son to play guitar? Does he listens to metal as well?

- We play now and then. I never force him. Right now he practice on some Black Sabbath and Accept stuff. Yeah, he likes metal stuff and have started a small, so far, vinyl collection. Faves are WASP, Kiss and Accept. But also enjoys Slayer, Sepultura (He met Paul Jr. last summer, also Dee Snider at the same time). And stuff like that. Also old stuff like Deep Purple and Rainbow. I try to learn the roots of it all. He is just 7 years old, and have met some of his idols. Some months ago we saw WASP, he was bloody blown away. This summer he will see Kiss, Accept (he likes the new album), Saxon etc. I don't try to form him, he is my kid and can listen to whatever he wants. Of course, he also sometimes can sing along with music that simply are "kid" music. I guess every country have some sort of clown that does music and are simply kid music. But if you would ask him what his fave band is, it would be "Pete Flesh Deathtrip". He is loyal.

What hobbies do you have besides metal?

- Reading and playing football with my son, also fishing. I do not socialize so much with other people. I have my son, girlfriend and her kids, just taking care of the closest.

Tack så mycket! That's all for now. The last warning is yours!

- Thanx bro for the interview, greatful for the support, you know it!!! People interested in my work are welcome to contact me. Hail the hordes!

Peter Karlsson (The Pete Flesh Deathtrip) (01.IX.2012)

 Interview with Peter Karlsson

of The Pete Flesh Deathtrip  (01.IX.2012)

(Questions compiled by Cornelius of Encomium and Georgius)

"The following is an exciting interview with Peter "Pete Flesh" Karlsson, guitarist/vocalist/composer behind dozens of great Swedish Death/Thrash/Doom/Black bands. There's really no need to say more, better read Pete's answers and dive into the dungeon and lair of THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP!" Cornelius of Encomium

How many tracks do you plan to record for the 4th album of THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP and when it will be published officially?

- The album is already recorded and hopefully we will see a release on Pulverised Records this autumn. It was a really long recording process, 2 years. I decided to change studio from the well known The Abyss studio (with Tommy Tägtgren) to studio Beast and work with Peter Bjärgö (CRYPT OF KERBEROS, TYRANT, ARCANA, etc.) as a producer instead. I only live 4 miles from the studio so I could really take the time to work on one instrument at the time. Also Peter had some other recordings, shows, etc. to take care of meanwhile. But I was not in any hurry; this album needed this time to take its final form. I wrote and recorded 9 tracks for this album. It could have been less, it could have been more. The process was going on all the time till the mastering was done.

On "Fallen Bliss" we have heard the vocals of Micke Broberg (UNANIMATED, CELESTIAL PAIN). How many guest musicians will be on "Mortui Vivos Docent"?

- Actually Micke guest sings on half of the album. On one track we shared the vocals through the whole track. First it was supposed to only be guest vocals on 2 tracks, but I noticed that his voice would be perfect for some more. I really tried to find the right balance between him and me. Also we both not sound the same; there is a cool contrast I think. This album is made for people that listen to an album from start to finish. I tried to capture and create the true essence of what T.P.F.D.T. is all about, why I do this and the purpose behind it. Micke also did some lyrics. And this was the first time ever I let somebody in and be a part of the creative aspects. Adde from VINTERLAND, TYRANT, THE BLACK is the guest drummer on this album. It was really cool to finally work with him. We had not met in more than 10 years. We used to party when MAZE OF TORMENT and VINTERLAND hung out (MAZE OF TORMENT's first singer, Pehr Larsson, was also a member in VINTERLAND). Rogga from MERCILESS should have some guest sings too. Also Andy from KING DIAMOND was more or less ready for a guitar solo, he had the track and everything. But it all ran out, because of different things, not because of Andy... just shit, you know... and it feels shit when he had the track and already had a solo more or less ready. But I hope next time :) Also with Rogga. Actually, there is a version of "Fallen Bliss" where John-John (ex-DISSECTION, CARDINAL SIN) plays the guitar solo. He was not totally satisfied, it was a test. Then personal things happen in his life, becoming a father, etc. So there was no time at that time to continue. But that will also hopefully happen on the next album. I will not use Micke again. Every album will get its own "sign", even if he did a bloody great work.

Tell us please about your lyrical concept. Do you continue themes on anti-christianity, evil & death?

- My lyrics have always been about me and my views on life, death, religion, suicide, filth & fuck-ups. If I hate something I have the ground for my hate. I'm not a 14 year old emo kid that just hates the world, because he should. If I write about filth it's because I have lived in filth, not because I am a 14 year old emo kid and my parents didn't get me a new guitar. People that not are in the scene and just go after the big radio channels can ask me why I hate stuff like IN FLAMES? I say that I don't hate IN FLAMES, I just can't relate to their expressions, the words don't speak to me. It's not IN FLAMES fault that they are big, the world just looks like this & people are just too lazy to go deeper into their souls for a greater purpose. When Blackie Lawless sings "I'm a wild child, come on and love me" that is more evil and have a greater purpose for me than the emo teen angst. It's like when people says that they are Christians and believe in God, but they never go to church, they only use it when it comes in handy. Or when Satanist only uses the Baphomet around the neck, but would shit their pants if saw the Devil. For me it's all about different forces in life and the universe, then it's up to you how you explore it and use it. If music and expressions like IN FLAMES satisfies you, that's fine with me, really. But never say that I'm immature, because I have my expressions... Then you have all my hate, in a greater purpose.

The awesome cover-art for your new album was made by Erik Sahlström. Who came up with the cover idea? Tell us more about this alliance.

- Yes, Erik did a bloody great work this time. I had the title "Mortui Vivos Docent" for the album and we discussed some ideas, but I give all the credit to him for the final result. He has done most of the artwork for my FLESH project, also for DECEIVER, MAZE OF TORMENT, SERPENT OBSCENE (Sweden's most underrated Thrash band in my opinion). He was also the second singer in MAZE OF TORMENT, first in DECEIVER, singer in SERPENT OBSCENE. Today he sings in GENERAL SURGERY. We have been friends for many years.

(an awesome gift from Peter, dedicated 'Mortui Vivos Docent CD - G)

Do you think about live shows or maybe about a tour for THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP?

- Maybe some festival shows. A tour would be really hard. First I must find the right people to do this with.

There was a video interview with you taken by Hellen Jacobsson and Marcus Boqvist for their art school class. It was very impressive to watch out this short of art film. Tell us your personal impressions and also recommend us more of this sort.

- I was just myself. And to be honest, looking and hearing myself is maybe not a thing I like to do. I watched it through fast and gave them an OK to put it out. They have also helped me with most of the FLESH, DECEIVER, THROWN tracks, to put them out on YouTube.... I'm a technical idiot. Of course I thank them for their interest in my music. I know they have done an interview with some painter as well.

You've uploaded a new THROWN track "The Two Embracing Souls of Skies", which is very sad and emotional. How many tracks will you create for that project?

- First I was not going to put that track out, but I finally did after some consideration. I like and listen to a lot of stuff and also then get influenced. I like a lot of long instrumental parts, music that grabs you and you paint pictures on your head. I listen a lot to 70s ALICE COOPER, PINK FLOYD, DEAD CAN DANCE, etc. Actually, THROWN did an album in 2007 called "The Suicidal Kings Occult". That was a project for me where I could play drums as well... just put in different stuff. This demo sounds a bit different, but I have never said how THROWN should sound. Right now it feels like it would take a very long time before I would do a track again. The idea must come to me first.

Tell us in short about the bands of your past. Which was your favorite and why?

- I started my first in 1988, called LEPROST. Then a band called NECROCIDE. The first demo I was playing on was with EMBRYO. We did 2 of them. I think one of them will be out on a 7" vinyl. The drummer (today in CRYPT OF KERBEROS and BLOOD MORTIZED) is taking care of that. Then we have HARMONY that became TORMENT and that became MAZE OF TORMENT. HARMONY did some demos and promos (collection of promos released on CD by Konqueror Records). MAZE OF TORMENT did 5 albums with me on guitars. Then I quit. Then did one more after that. I started DECEIVER and FLESH at the same time. Today I only have FLESH (T.P.F.D.T.) that also is my fave. Of course I'm proud of all albums that I have been on. The first MAZE OF TORMENT album "The Force" is a jewel for me. Those days it was harder to get out an album.

(another gift from Peter, dedicated  The Pete Flesh Deathtrip-vinyl 'Mortui Vivos Docent' - G)

What do you think about the actual Swedish Death/Thrash/Black scene? Do you have any favorite hordes?

- I guess it's good. Everything from DEMONICAL to WATAIN. A lot of quality stuff I must say. Also the gig scene starting to grow again. But I must say, even if I still read mags, get tips from friends, etc. and try to support the underground I seem to fail in time, so many bands. Some of my all times faves: DISSECTION, BATHORY, CANDLEMASS, NIFELHEIM, MERCILESS, DISMEMBER, CARDINAL SIN, KATATONIA, AT THE GATES, GROTESQUE, CARNAGE and some more.

Have you any interesting hobbies beside music?

- Hanging out with my son. Discussing all kind of stuff, while fishing or playing football. I like a lot of reading and watching all kinds of documentaries. Just developing my views on different stuff and subjects. Consuming information to get ideas for lyrics or music. I can spend whole days on YouTube just watching interviews with bands. I like to see how other people relate to their own creativity. Yes, I can even watch an IN FLAMES interview; I'm very open-minded in that sense. If I don't like a big phenomenon, I always get curious why I don't like it. Some people say that I like to think a lot.... sometimes unnecessary.

Tack så mycket! Last thoughts are yours to the readers...

- Bloody thanx for the support, really! Hail the Hordes! Anyone is welcome to drop me a line for more information.

Peter Karlsson

Interview with Peter Karlsson
(The Pete Flesh Deathtrip,
ex-Maze Of Torment, ex-Deceiver)

Hail brother Pete! Regarding your kindness, I had fortune to listen to The Pete Flesh Deathtrip new material, called ”Svartnad” and I must to say, it is a brilliant album. Would you be so kind to tell all the important information about it? What means the word/phrase Svartnad? (please, share with the readers the actual recording line-up/guest musician(s) as well)

- Thank you very much for those words regarding the album. I would say that the most important thing about the new album is that it´s not a ”Mortui Vivos Docent” part 2. I wanted to create an album that would be a contrast to that one, but still with the same kind of honest and personal dark - atmospheric ingredients. I also changed studio, drummer and producer for this album. ”Svartnad” means ”Blackened” in Swedish. I had that word for a long time in my head, and when the music started to form around the vision I had for this album it became more and more obvious that I would use it, just felt right. I played all the instruments expect the drums. This time it was the producer Henrik Borg that handle that part. We both also did some layers here and there. Henrik also did some guest vocals on two parts on the album. Not so many guest musicians on this album, just Henrik.

What lyrical themes include ”Svartnad”? I’ve watched a lot of times new The Pete Flesh Deathtrip video, ”The Sun Will Fail” and in my opinion is awesome job. Share some thoughts about circumstances of clip-making process. It will be a new video then?

- It´s is hard to be really objective sometimes when you are in the middle of creating an album, specially when you are writing all the music and lyrics. I read through all the lyrics some days ago and it was easier to be objective when it has gone some time. The lyrics has a really strong suicide, hopelessness, misanthropic atmosphere over them. A lot of past stuff. To get as personal as possible when I write them I just let the pen flow. I think you could say that I am more abstract in a sense when it comes to lyrics, than for example a historical correct writer. It´s more about personal views, experiences and dark emotions. The video has no deeper meaning than that I wanted to create a vibe with so little as possible, no story line etc. Just me and Henrik trying to capture the atmosphere of the song, letting the song doing all the work. But it´s always harder to get something less and abstract to work in the bigger sense. But I am satisfied with the result. Yes, there will be at least one more video. I film a lot on my own and have a big interest in that form of creative work, to bring music and film together. Actually I create my music more through pictures and films in my head than from a clean pure theoretical correct musician point of view.

THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP - The Sun Will Fail (OFFICIAL VIDEO):

The track "The Suicide End" from TPFDT debut album "Mortui Vivos Docent" will feature in a German underground horror movie this year. Tell to the readers about this infernal co-operation more, please.

- To be honest I have not heard any news regarding that project in a very long time. Like a lot of creative ideas, visions and goals in life a lot of it ran out in the sand because of financial problems. I´m not saying that this is the case here, but it would not surprise me.

TPFDT - "Demons Nor Zarath" (an excellent track as for me) was recorded for the CriticalMass.se volume 2 LP compilation in 2015 among a lot of another great bands and you signed a contract with this Swedish label for the releasing ”Svartnad” this year. How many releases you will plan with Critical Mass or You only signed for ”Svartnad”?

- We have only signed for one album deal right now. The music business today is like Russian roulette, so it´s better to work like this.

What is the situation with live shows of The Pete Flesh Deathtrip? (it would be great to see your band at live near my area)

- There are plans and I´m working on it. I´m sure it will happen one day. There are only some details left to be solved.

Back to the time a bit. What was your very first band? When did you start to play guitar and which guitarists inspired you at that era? Have you some favourite guitarists nowadays?

- My first band was called Leprost, of course inspired from the Death album ”Leprosy”. No recording or anything like that, but we did one live show. Chuck/Death was of course a big inspiration. Also James/Metallica and Jeff/Slayer. At the beginning you had a more physical approach towards the guitar and making music than the more mental personal vibe you picked up during the years of your own development, that you form your own style with all kind of different influences. I have listen to for example Pink Floyd from an early age, but it took me many years before I really understood the brilliance of David Gilmour´s playing.

I like a lot your previous bands as Harmony, Maze Of Torment, Deceiver. Would you be so kind to talk about these hordes briefly? It is possible, that you with your old mates will do something together again in the future? (maybe a show, or re-release some old stuff with bonuses)

- Harmony was the seed that led to Torment and then Maze of Torment. I think we had that Harmony name for around two years, did some demos and promos. Maze of Torment was my life for 12 years before I decided to quit. We recorded five studio albums together. They did one more after I left. I forced Deceiver directly after, a band I am really proud of. The albums maybe not always got the proper recording, if we recorder them today they would be a lot better with a better focus, but we were a really good live band and the energy was shown better there. We recorded three full-length albums and one mini album. No, I don´t think I ever will play with any of those bands again. I don´t say that in a arrogant way, it is just the reality. For example, I would never do Deceiver again without the original line-up, when Destormo sang, not me. And for that to happen I see as impossible. We have all different bands and lives today. But if would pick one of my old bands to do anything with, then that would be Deceiver. I would not have any problems with re-releases with any of the old albums, but there have never been any interest from a label. One thing that I really would like to happen is to have the debut album from Maze of Torment ”The Force” out on vinyl. I know that there is a big interest for that from MOT fans.

The first album of The Pete Flesh Deathtrip is one of my favourite releases in 2013. Among the great music your and with Micke Broberg’ vocalizing has totally „killed” me on the good way. What is your opinion about his new project, Daemonium Regni? Maybe in the near future you will work again in some common material?

- I´m very proud of Mortui Vivos Docent” and also that I had Micke is on there as guest singer on half of the album, he also did some killer lyrics. He is a great creative musician and I like all his stuff, also Daemonium Regni. I would not say that it´s impossible that we would work together again depending on the material etc. The purpose for me with TPFDT is to have different approaches towards every new album. The source and ground is my creative visions, then I try to ”color” them with different elements, could be guest musicians that I not have worked with or something else. But I don´t see it as something impossible. I have tremendous respect for his own work.

(there are  some awesome gifts, which ones Peter sent me)

Is there any news with the band, BLOOD ON THE AXE, where you are playing together with your son?

- I guess you could call that band ”Blood on the Ice” right now, not much have happen. He is the leader and chief there, I don´t know if I´m kicked out of the band. I have not been invited to any band meetings in a very long time. It could be that I´m bold, fat and old.

Tack så mycket, brother! Send to the readers some thought of Deathtrip…

- Check out the new album ”Svartnad”, out now on CD/LP/digital on Critical Mass Recordings. Thanx brother for the interview and endless support.

Peter Karlsson (The Pete Flesh Deathtrip)

Interview with Peter Karlsson
(ex-Maze  of Torment/ex-Deceiver,
The Pete Flesh Deathtrip)

Hail Pete! While this is the first interview with you tell more what you've done since our last discussion!

- The album finally got out after several delays (no blame to the label). Done some promotion work, little interviews etc. Just spreading the word.

Now returning to your band, you just released a new album on May 27th. On which physical formats is the album released: vinyl, tape or CD? How did you choose the title, what is it about? Do you see it as a conceptual album?

- Only released on CD right now. But there are plans to have it out on vinyl through Temple of Whores records, lots of delays there as well. But I hope it will be out until at least December. The title came along when I've red a Swedish criminal book and when I saw it there was no question about it. The meaning of the title is "The dead teach the living".
No, no special concept, but the title can be put in so many different contexts and forms, which attracts me in the sense that you can form a lot of different stories that fits into an overall concept.

This is your 4th album, and the 1st under the name The Pete Flesh Deathtrip. How do you see it compared to the first three albums?

- More variation. I think all the albums have strong material and songs, but this one has better structured throughout the whole album. There are more influences, more of everything and more.....hm, space. Of course the fact that I use a different studio, different drummer and a guest vocalist on half of the album gives it a big difference also. I will always sound like I do, but will always try to put in small details that gives it a little new vibe for every release.

Mickael Broberg, one of the guest musicians did killing vocal parts on "Mortui Vivos Docent". What is Your opinion about his latest bands/projects, as Born For Burning and The 13th Passenger?

 - I like ´em both and think Micke is a really talented person and sure that he will succeed big time with his music. Much better musician than me. But I do what I do and he does what he does. I´m really satisfied with his contribution on the album and his understanding on how things should be done.

Did you start to write new tracks for The Pete Flesh Deathtrip? What is the situation nowadays with your other band/project THROWN?

- Yes I have. It have been around 2 years since I did the last song for "Mortui Vivos Docent", so the inspiration is really big and ideas are coming up all the time. There will be no more THROWN. I will use all relevant, and in my ears, good stuff for The Pete Flesh Deathtrip. Actually one song have an pure THROWN riff that should have been used there. I don´t see any point for me anymore to have side projects etc. Everything I do sounds like me anyway. There will be more variation, but all I do and create will always have the same "fire" behind it. I try to create different atmospheres and emotional differences, contrasts etc. To be able to do that I also need to find different expressions.

What do you think about the social networks as Facebook, MySpace etc. help to reach fans for your band?

- I´m not a big fan of Facebook when it comes to promoting your music. Seems more important on how many likes you have than that people actually listen and are interested in your music. In my point I thought that old Myspace was a lot better. You could create something more personal for the band in lay-outs etc. Also a player, band info etc. directly in your face. I have nothing against, that it´s easier to make contacts with everything, from fans to labels. But something have got lost in all this internet stuff. In my opinion there was a bigger creative spark before, people like yourself, that have that "fire" for what you do. In a sense it feels more like people are consuming music today like going to Mc Donalds or IKEA, if you get my point. But times changing, maybe I´m just an old complaining fart.

Can you imagine that you'll play with your son in a common metal band in the future?

- Yes, for sure. We have already a band called BLOOD ON THE AXE. But there will take some time before we record anything. He is only 7 years old and are still learning, but like the band name and a lot of the riffs comes from him. I guess I´m just a guest musician that will be kicked out when stuff starts to happen. Like it should be.

Where do you take inspirations for your lyrics from?

- Mostly, stuff that relates to the dead and death in general. We all can relate to it and have different expreciances from it, I try to make it from my experiences, reflections and journeys to find different views on it. It has attracts me since I was a kid, it comes natural for me. There are tons of topics that you can relate to this factor and write about. Of course, sometimes there are lyrics written that has nothing to do with it, but not often. I at least must find it interesting.

Could you please name some of your favourite books and documentaries or movies?

- I explain my taste instead of name dropping. I like most that have some kind of reality behind it. It could be about a ballerina from Russia to a Satanist that have lived alone in a dungeon. You know, people that burn for what they are doing, how they reflects and explain their way of thinking. That manic side of people that almost, and sometimes have, driven them to insanity. I can relate to that. My point is, not being narrow-minded also allows you to develop and find new ways of thinking to reach your own goals. I read a lot of psychological stuff. Different disorders. About alcohol and drug addicts. Prostitution. Religions. A lot of stuff that relates to different form of music. Deep ways of thinking around death and universe. Tons of different topics.

Have you any favourite football teams from Sweden or worldwide?

- Beside music me and my son share a passion for watching football, also to play it ourself. DIF (Djurgårdens) in Sweden, then Liverpool and Barca outside.

Sweden is well-known for its Viking heritage. What the Norse mythology, gods, runestones mean to you?

- I myself have no connection at all to those subjects. Not that I have anything against it, have just never interested me. I like some music that have felt with those subjects, like mighty BATHORY.

Did you ever meet Jon Nödtveidt personally? What is your opinion about Him?

- I met Jon 3 times. We played with them in 1995 in Borås, Sweden when I was in Maze of Torment. It was sick how good they were. Then at some show in Stockholm, don't really remember who was playing. But I remember we had some discussion over our love for King Diamond. The last time was in 2005 when we played at the same festival, Inferno in Norway. We talked a little in the hotel lobby, he asked a bit about my new band I had at that time, Deceiver. He knew that I was a huge Dissection fan so we talked of course about that as well. My opinion about Jon is that he was a great and unique songwriter. I never knew him as a friend or anything like that, but he was always nice to me and we always hit the nerve and passion for music the few times we talked. Nothing but respect for all the great music he created.

Tack så mycket, Pete! In the end, share your thoughts to the readers.

- Thanx a lot bro for the support again, grateful. Other than that - "Children of all slaves, Stand united and proud, All people of bondage shall triumph, And live by the sign of...Blood Fire Death!"
